MY FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO IN LONDON AT CHRISTMAS

Things to do in London at Christmas

London is one of my favourite places to visit, especially at this time of year.  With all the Christmas decorations lighting up the streets, the jolly atmosphere whilst doing some Christmas shopping, and special Christmas events taking place everyday – London is the place to be!

So, as there’s officially only one month left until Christmas, I thought I would share all my favourite things to do in London at Christmas!

As I mentioned, I absolutely love shopping in London at Christmas time.  I normally head onto Oxford Street as I think the atmosphere there is so Christmassy.  I always look forward to walking along the street as it is lit up with all the Christmas decorations, and seeing all the spectacular decorations outside some of the department stores (Selfridge’s and House of Fraser in particular).  Of course, this year a trip to Oxford Street would obviously include a visit to the Lush flagship store, packed with lots of exclusive Lush goodies!

When Oxford Street gets a bit too much, I like to head to Westfield Stratford City – just a short tube trip away on the central line from Oxford Circus.  This shopping centre is packed with over 250 different shops and amazing restaurants.  Although the shopping centre is buzzing with people, it is definitely not as busy as Oxford Street, so I prefer going here for some (relatively) quieter shopping.

Things to do in London at Christmas

Of course, a trip to London at Christmas time wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Winter Wonderland!  A walk through Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park is sure to leave anyone feeling Christmassy (last year, I dragged my boyfriend to the park even though “it was too early to feel Christmassy” but by the time we left he was humming Christmas carols! #winning).  Some of the attractions at this year’s edition of Winter Wonderland include an ice rink, ice bar and a Christmas market that’s sure to get you in a Christmas spirit.

Speaking of Christmas markets, I also love the atmosphere at South Bank.  The annual Christmas market features a number of festive shows and performances set just by the river.  There is also a lovely Christmas market on the riverside offering a good variety of food and festive drinks.  It’s definitely worth a visit!

With so much to do in London at this time of year, it’s a good idea to book a stay in a central London holiday apartment, especially if you don’t live close by.  Short Let London offer a number of short stay apartments in London at reasonable prices, which would be absolutely perfect if you want to experience the brilliant atmosphere in the city centre!

WHAT’S IN MY TRAVEL MAKEUP BAG

Travel Makeup Bag

One of my favourite things to do is travel to new places!  Earlier this week, I spent a few days in Italy, which I really enjoyed.  And so I thought I would share with you what I packed in my travel makeup bag!

THE BASE PRODUCTS

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25Hr Nude Foundation in ‘Ivory’.

This has been my go-to foundation lately, so I couldn’t possibly leave this behind!  It offers a medium-full coverage, feels comfortable on the skin and most importantly, it’s incredibly long-lasting.  It also feels moisutrising – making it perfect for using after flying!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in ‘Ivory’.

This is one of my favourite concealers for covering up any under-eye dark circles.  It’s incredibly creamy and really brightens up the skin!

MAC Studio Fix Powder in ‘NW20’.

I bought this foundation at the beginning of summer, and I love it!  It keeps all my makeup in place and helps it last a lot longer.  It helps to mattify any shine and also provides some additional coverage.

Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder in ’51’.

I’ve been using this bronzer for a while now and find that it’s perfect for dusting over the high points of my face for a bit of a glow.  Shade 51 is not too orange and is great for those with fair skin.

ELF Cosmetics Baked Blush in ‘Rich Rose’.

Another old favourite of mine, this baked blush from ELF acts both as a blush and as a highlight.  I enjoy packing this whenever I travel as the packaging is so small and compact, so no space is wasted.  Review here.

THE EYE PRODUCTS

Urban Decay Naked Palette.

I find it so hard to pick just one palette to pack when travelling!  Although the Urban Decay Naked Palette is definitely not the most travel-friendly palette due to its size, I convinced myself that it has pretty much any eyeshadow shade I might possibly want to use #noregrets!

L’Oreal Superliner Black Lacquer Waterproof.

I recently spoke about how much I love this liquid eyeliner – and it’s definitely one I reach for when travelling.  It’s easy to apply, very highly pigmented and although it’s not completely waterproof, it’s super long-lasting and looks just as great throughout the day as it does when it is first applied. Review here.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara.

This mascara does it all – it defines, it lengthens and it volumises the lashes.  And although the packaging is a bit bulky, I couldn’t resist packing this! Review here.

THE LIP PRODUCTS

MAC Lipstick in ‘Brave’.

My all-time favourite neutral lipstick shade, MAC Brave, could not be left behind!  I find that it’s the perfect lipstick shade as it looks good with pretty much any makeup look, it goes on smoothly (even when you’ve got those dreaded post-flight dry lips!) and it lasts around 4-6 hours on the lips. See it in action here.

Topshop Sheer Lips in ‘Chuck’.

This is the more moisturising lipstick that I packed – a gorgeous, sheer berry lipstick from Topshop!  Although this does not last as long on the lips as MAC Brave, it really helps to moisturise the lips – something that I always require after flying! Review here.

EDINBURGH CITY GUIDE | SNAPPY SNAPS

Edinburgh Castle

As you may have noticed I have been quite quiet on the blog during the past week – this is because I was on holiday!  Edinburgh is one of my favourite places in the world and I could not wait to spend a week exploring the city.  The weather was very warm during the first few days.  In fact, I even got sunburnt – not something I was expecting on a trip to Scotland!

I hope that you enjoy some of the photos I took, below.  I would highly recommend visiting the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh if you haven’t already – it’s lovely!

ps – Check out my mini Edinburgh City Guide at the end of the post!

Some of the highlights of my trip included:

  • Visiting the magnificent Edinburgh Castle
  • Joining a free walking tour.  The company we used was Sandeman’s New Edinburgh Tours, and our tour guide, Colin, took us on a very fun and informative journey around Edinburgh.  This included lots of sights and information any Harry Potter fan would find super interesting – including the cafe were JK Rowling wrote the first couple of books as well as the cemetery nearby with a few familiar names from the books.  I would highly recommend doing this if you’re visiting the city!
  • Shopping on Princes Street (SUCH a good Primark!)
  • Sitting outside the Scottish National Gallery watching a bagpiper play the bagpipe – when a large group of children turned up and started dancing in the middle of the square!
  • Walking around Arthur’s Seat – definitely climbing to the top of this extinct volcano on my next visit.  The panoramic views at the top are said to be amazing.
  • Taking a short train journey to Stirling and visiting the remarkable Stirling Castle

DUBLIN | SNAPPY SNAPS

Dublin
The River Liffey

This weekend I went on a (late) birthday trip to Dublin.  Dublin is one of my favourite cities and I hadn’t been there since 2012, so I was really looking forward to going back for a short break.  The trip consisted of lots of shopping and wandering around the city!  The things we did included enjoying a walk in the pleasant spring weather around St Stephen’s Green, shopping in Grafton Street, O’Connell Street and Henry Street, a trip to the Disney store and having possibly the best fish and chips of my entire life from Leo Burdock in Temple Bar!  Luckily, the weather was great while we were there – sunny, with clear blue skies – perfect spring weather!

BIRDPARK MALTA | SNAPPY SNAPS

Birdpark Malta

I celebrated my 23rd birthday last week and wanted to do something a little bit different to what I would normally do to celebrate my birthday – and so I decided to visit the Birdpark Malta!  As you may have guessed from the name of my blog, I love birds!  And the Birdpark had been on my to-do list ever since it first opened a few years ago.  I didn’t quite know what to expect before I got there, but I was so impressed with the place and got just a little bit overexcited when I noticed the peacocks, ducks and chickens roaming freely around the place!  I would highly recommend visiting the park if you ever have the chance.  Until then, I hope you enjoy some of the photos which I took on my (bird)day trip to the park.

RHS GARDEN WISLEY, SURREY | SNAPPY SNAPS

RHS WISLEY

Last month, me and my boyfriend decided to visit the RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey.  Wisley is a large and diverse garden covering around 240 acres.  There are loads of pretty and colourful flowers and plants, ducks (which I got slightly excited about when I spotted!) as well as a Butterfly House where you get to experience lots of butterflies flying all around – one even landed on my boyfriend’s head which was pretty funny!

I hope you enjoy some of the photos I took below – Please note I was dressed just like an eskimo as it was freezing!
