How To Achieve A Younger Looking Face | Guest Post

The skin on your face is one of the most important parts but it’s also one of the most fragile. It requires more care than most parts of the body and it’s most prone to breakouts as a result of exposure to heat, dirt, oil, chemicals and other elements. Aside from external elements, your face is also prone to dullness and wrinkles when it ages or when it suffers from stress and bad nutrition.

Wrinkles appear in the later decades of a person’s life, but sometimes earlier if that person is prone to bad habits like smoking, drinking alcohol or illegal drugs. Some turn to Mizon cosmetic products for help in getting rid of wrinkles and other skin aging signs. Beauty products are effective in getting rid of wrinkles but these remedies are not as good as preventive measures.

Other people drink Vitamin A, C and E supplements to try reversing the signs of skin aging, stress and improper nutrition but those are not the only nutrients that your skin needs in order to repair itself. Collagen and placenta drinks are common for women aged 40 and above since their skin looses elasticity during that time.

Before tackling the methods by which wrinkles can be removed, we have to take a look at how these facial lines are formed. Age is one of the most common factors, and it’s uncontrollable. Time is something that cannot be stopped or reversed so we have to take a look at other ways to prevent or get rid of wrinkles.

Here are some of the prevention and remedies that can be used for wrinkles:

1. Invest in a nightly skin care routine to combat the most common cause of wrinkles.

Hygiene is one of the most common causes of wrinkles. Some people get too tired at the end of a work day so they don’t invest time and effort in cleaning their skin in preparation for bedtime. However, doing proper nightly skincare routine before going to bed is one of the best ways to prevent wrinkles and this is evident in the women in their late 50’s with their youthful glow.

To get rid of wrinkles caused by bad hygiene, you have to make sure that you don’t sleep with your makeup on. Invest in good facial cleansers and toners to make sure that all cosmetics are removed from the pores before bedtime.

2. Counter wrinkles caused by stress and bad habits by improving nutrition.

Your skin needs lots of water to hydrate itself and avoid loss of elasticity. Drink at least 3 liters of water in a day to make sure that your skin stays supple and radiant. One of the other causes of wrinkles is the dryness of the skin, which is the result of poor sleeping habits, stress, smoking, alcohol, and others.

Improve your nutrition and food intake as a way to counter bad habit and diet, which is a common cause of wrinkles. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and vitamins in order to help repair your damaged skin. Fish is rich in collagen that allows the production of healthy oils that help in your skin’s youthful glow. Also, drink milk that contains vitamin E and iron to help in the skin repairs.

3. Organic and natural remedies for wrinkles caused by aging.

Sometimes prevention is no longer possible. The bad habits, hygiene, and nutrition have already taken a toll on your face, causing wrinkles even at an earlier age. There are a few remedies you can do at home that involve ingredients easily found in the cupboard:

Egg anti-wrinkle serum: Get 1 or 2 eggs and remove the yolks. Apply the egg white on your face, targeting the parts with wrinkles first then applying the rest. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and rinse with cold water.

Banana facial scrub: Rub a small piece of banana on your face for at least once a week as a natural wrinkle remover and finishing touch of your cleanser.

Tumeric and sugar face pack: Mix sugar cane juice in turmeric until the mixture forms a paste. You can also add other ingredients like honey, cucumber, and lemon for more exfoliating properties. Make sure the face pack is viscous and sticky before applying on your face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Do this face mask at least twice weekly.[/pipdig_padded_text]

The Face Scrub That Smells Like Chocolate Milkshake & Works Like A Dream

When it comes to my skincare routine, I normally like to stick to the same products – ones I’ve tried, tested and ones that I know work with my skin type. However, I sometimes come across a gem that blows my mind and I instantly know that I just have to include into my skincare regime – and share it on the blog, on course!

A couple of months ago, I received the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Exfoliating Facial Scrub in a Latest in Beauty Box. I must admit, I don’t regularly use facial scrubs as most of them tend to leave my face feeling dry and tight. However, I knew that from using other products from the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter range, this one should be moisturiisng and I was curious to give this one a go.

After having a closer look at the product, I discovered that it’s actually packed with nourishing ingredients such as Cocoa Butter (of course!), and Evening Primrose Oil – 2 ingredients that I love in my skincare products. It also contains cocoa powder and finely crushed walnut shell to gently buff away any dead skin cells and help reveal smooth, glowing skin.

One thing I really love about the product is the scent – it smells exactly like a malty chocolate milkshake. Apart from that, the exfoliating particles are really fine so it feels really gentle when massaged onto the skin, and there’s no dry and tight feeling on my skin after using this. It leaves my skin feeling super soft and looking radiant.  I love following this with a hydrating mist such as the First Aid Beauty Vitamin Hydrating Mist or a light moisturiser like the L’Oreal Hydra Genius Aloe Water.

Have you tried any products from the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter range?

Treating Acne: Facial Scrubs vs Prescription Medication | Guest Post

Acne isn’t just a teenage problem, and whatever age you may be, acne is an unwanted problem. It can be especially stubborn to get rid of, and there are many different products out there which promise results including facial scrubs which can be bought over the counter.

Many acne sufferers choose to go straight to their doctor to get a prescription for medication to treat the condition. So, which is the best option if you’re suffering from those unwanted spots and blemishes – acne prescriptions or over the counter scrubs?

The Benefits Of An Acne Prescription

If you’ve already tried every regular acne treatment available over the counter and have had no success, you need something more powerful to clear up your skin. A doctor can prescribe medications which can not only control acne but which will also help to prevent scarring and reduce the appearance of any existing scars.

Prescription medications for acne reduces the skin’s oil production, speeding up cell production to reduce inflammation and fight bacteria. This ensures that you skin not only feels smoother and clearer, but it will help it to remain free of acne in the future too.

Many Forms Of Treatment

Although many prescription acne medications come in pill format, there are other options too for those who struggle to swallow tablets. There are some topical creams available which can easily be added into your skincare regime, and when used on clean skin at the right time of time they are guaranteed to work thanks to extensive medical testing.

What Are The Benefits Of An Over The Counter Facial Scrub?

For those who aren’t yet ready to approach their doctor for a prescription, there are some over the counter facial scrub treatments which you may want to try. Although these don’t contain the same kind of powerful medicine which prescription treatments do, they are useful in cleaning facial skin to guard against further breakouts.

How Do Facial Scrubs Work?

When you use a facial scrub on your skin, you are cleaning away the dirt, flakes of dead skin, sweat and oil from its surface. This allows the pores to be opened up, reducing existing acne and guarding against it occurring again. Often, your skin will also feel smoother and look clearer. The right facial scrubs are able to remove dark patches and acne scars as long as they contain the right ingredients.

So, Which Is Best?

Facial scrubs may hold the answer for some people, however if you’ve already tried everything on sale in your local store, you’re probably looking for a treatment that is more powerful and which has been proven to work. It can be hard to find an over the counter treatment which contains all the essential ingredients you need to treat problem skin effectively, so discussing your acne with your doctor and obtaining a prescription is often the best solution to getting the clear, spot-free skin that you have been hoping for.[/pipdig_padded_text]

The Cleansing Oil That Beats All Other Cleansing Oils | Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil

When it comes to removing my makeup, I’m not normally a fan of cleansing oils. I find that they’re not usually effective at removing *all* of my makeup and can leave behind a breakout-inducing greasy film on my skin. However, Caudalie is a skincare brand that I have tried and loved in the past so I really wanted to give their Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil a go to see what it was like – and I’m *so* glad I did.

The Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil is made using a gentle yet effective formula that claims to dissolve all types of makeup, including waterproof mascara. It is advertised as being suitable for sensitive skin (which I sometimes have) and promises to leave your skin feeling perfectly cleansed and refreshed with none of the greasiness that many other cleansing oils leave behind.

Caudalie recommends that you use 3 pumps of the oil and warm this between your palms before massaging it onto dry skin with your eyes closed, which sounds easy enough.

I like my makeup removers to be quick and easy to use. After all, removing your makeup isn’t the most fun or interesting thing to do. I normally use the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water to remove my makeup as it’s the most fast and effective way of removing my makeup – or so I thought. The Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil is *A-M-A-Z-I-N-G* and so much better if you’re like me and like to get rid of your makeup fast! After massaging the oil into my skin for a few seconds I could feel all my makeup instantly breaking down – including my mascara. I have recently been using the Benefit BadGAL BANG! mascara and although it is great at adding volume to my lashes, it’s not usually the easiest mascara to remove at the end of the day. However, the Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil has no trouble at all in completely removing the mascara, which I was super impressed by!

After massaging the oil into my skin and rinsing it off, my skin is left feeling really soft, clean and fresh – and as promised, there was no greasy film left behind!

How To Reduce Acne Scars & Achieve Clear Skin

As if acne itself wasn’t enough of a bother, it often leaves behind small scars that can take be pretty hard to get rid of. Acne scars form due to the skin damage left behind from the acne itself, especially if it is severe or quite inflamed. However, the good news is that there actually are some ways in which you can reduce acne scars and achieve a smooth complexion.

Acne Scar Removal Treatment

One of the most effective ways to reduce the appearance of acne scars is with a professional acne scar removal treatment. Places such as The Skin Repair Clinic provide this treatment which uses collagen induction therapy which allows your body to regenerate and repair the skin, to help improve the appearance of the skin following the damage caused by acne scars. This treatment enables new collagen to form, new skin cells to be generated and enhanced blood supply to the area to allow your skin to repair itself quicker. The treatment is quick and uses a specialist medical device which causes no pain.

If you’re interested in learning how to administer treatments such as LED Phototherapy, Ultrasonic Facelifts, or Micro Needling, The Skin Repair Clinic offers a range of training courses that are well worth checking out.

Chemical Peels

Although acne scar treatment is the best way of improving deep acne scarring, chemical peels can help improve the appearance of more mild acne scars. Chemical peels work by removing the top layers of the skin to help smoothen the surface. The type of chemical peel used varies according to each individual’s case, from milder AHA peels to slightly stronger TCA peels and even stronger Phenol peels, with each type of peel having its advantages and disadvantages. TCA peels and Phenol peels are most commonly used to reduce the appearance of acne scarring.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can help mild scarring. Coconut oil is full of fatty acids that have anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties that fight acne-causing bacteria in the skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that help to soothe the skin, and is rich in vitamins A, E and K which are great for healthy looking skin. Use this alone or mix with honey and aloe vera for an even more soothing treatment for the skin. Apply this to the face for around 30 minutes then rinse off and repeat this process twice a week.[/pipdig_padded_text]

5 Easy Habits For Better Skin

“Be good to your skin. You’ll wear it everyday for the rest of your life”

Skincare is something that we only really start to take seriously as we get older. In my case, it was only really when I turned 25 that I was determined to take good care of my skin. Before then, my skincare routine consisted of barely anything more than removing my makeup before going to bed and applying moisturiser whenever I felt like it.

However, taking good care of your skin doesn’t have to be a chore. It’s all about incorporating a few easy habits into your daily routine. Today I’ll be sharing 5 easy habits for better skin!

1. Stick to a realistic skincare routine

There’s no point in adding loads of skincare products to your everyday routine, when you know that realistically you’re never going to have time/be bothered to use them all. Instead, create your own simple skincare routine – one that doesn’t take too much time and effort, and most importantly, one which you will enjoy. After cleansing my skin, my evening routine includes using my favourite products – Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado and Nuxe Creme Fraiche de Beaute – done!

2. SPF is *always* a must!

However simple you decide to keep your skincare routine, the one thing you should *always* include in your daily routine is an SPF – 365 days a year. This protects your skin from the sun’s UV rays and is the best product you can use when it comes to anti-ageing! I love the Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 as it’s fuss-free, unscented, feels lightweight, moisturising and doesn’t break out my skin like some other SPF products have done in the past. It also works well as a base underneath makeup, making it a pleasure to use every morning.

3. Wash your makeup brushes regularly

Although this might not be something you would associate with skincare, cleaning your makeup brushes regularly is something that can make a huge difference to the way your skin looks and feels! The buildup of dead skin cells, bacteria, dirt and oils on your makeup brushes can cause acne breakouts and make your brushes feel more abrasive on your delicate skin.

4. Treat your skin to some extra love at least once a week

Face masks are a big part of my weekly routine – and I always notice a difference in the texture of my skin when I treat it to some extra love and care at least once a week. Whether you’ve got a dry, oily, sensitive or normal skin type, there’s a face mask out there designed for your skin type. Some of my favourites are the Nuxe Clarifying Cream-Mask with Rose Petals and the L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask (which costs just £7.99 and lasts for ages!)

5. Hydration is key

‘Drink more water’ is probably the most boring piece of advice out there. But it’s also the most effective. Getting into the habit of drinking plenty of water everyday is not just good for your overall wellbeing – but also for your skin. Over 60% of the skin is made up of water, and a lack of hydration will leave your skin feeling dry and looking dull. Drinking more water will help your skin look clear, youthful and more radiant!

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado | My Holy-Grail Eye Cream

[pipdig_banner image=””]

2017 was the year I started to take proper care of my skin, and one of my favourite skincare purchases was by far the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I started applying the product to my skin every night since last June –  but I didn’t expect to notice an improvement to my skin so soon after, as I was only using the product as a preventive treatment. I was very pleasantly surprised to notice an improvement to my skin after just a few months of use!

Many of the eye creams I have tried in the past have left my eyes feeling irritated and blurry the next morning. At £22.50 for a 14ml tub, the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado is quite pricey. However, after reading so many great reviews I decided to give it a go and hope for the best – and it was totally worth the splurge![/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]As the name would suggest, one of the main ingredients is Avocado Oil – one of the world’s most moisturising fruit oils that is rich in amino acids and skin-loving vitamins. Together with Shea Butter and Beta-Carotene, it intensely nourishes and smoothes the delicate skin around the eyes, and has a unique formula that does not migrate into the eyes.

Because the formula is so concentrated, you only need to use the tiniest amount each time and I absolutely love the texture of the cream. It feels rich but not heavy on the skin and it’s also really gentle and non-irritating. Although I don’t have any wrinkles around my eyes, I already started to notice a difference to the texture of my skin after just a few months of use. My skin already feels so much softer than it did before – you can tell that my skin really loves the product.

If you’re after a new eye cream, or you want to start taking better of your skin I would highly recommend the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I’ve already repurchased a back up of mine![/pipdig_padded_text]

Indeed Labs Skincare | Top Picks

I first heard of Indeed Labs a few years ago, when everyone was loving the Hydraluron Moisture Booster – and although I couldn’t afford it back then (#studentdays), I remember recommending this to my mum who absolutely loved it and still uses it nowadays!

However, apart from the best selling Hydraluron Moisture Booster, Indeed Labs have a fantastic range of innovative skincare products that target pretty much any skincare concern you may have.

Indeed Labs first launched in 2011 with Nanoblur – an instant skin blurring cream. We all have imperfections on the skin, whether that is fine lines, wrinkles, large pores or blemishes – yet I, for one, am not a fan of wearing foundation every single day to conceal any problem areas. Nanoblur is perfect for those makeup free days, when you want to add a little something to your skin for a more smooth looking complexion. Nanoblur has a gorgeous light-diffusing formula and optical blurring technology that work together to blur away imperfections and create the illusion of smoother, skin and reduces shine by giving a matte finish. This is perfect for oilier skin types, but you can also use it on dry skin (especially in winter!) by mixing Nanoblur with your favourite moisturiser.

Over the past year, I have gotten really into taking the delicate area of skin underneath my eyes. Indeed recently released the Eysilix II – an updated version of their best-selling eye cream that targets pretty much any problem you may want to tackle or avoid. This includes fine lines, puffiness or dark circles underneath the eyes. With a formula rich in essential peptides, ceramides, extracts and probiotics, the Eysilix II feels gentle, soothing and moisturising on the skin. And because you only need to apply only a small amount of product underneath the eyes, the 30ml tube will last for ages!

What are your favourite products from Indeed Labs? I’d love your recommendations!

Magnitone Limited Edition Barefaced Shimmer Collection

As I mentioned in my recent posts, 2017 was the year that I turned 25 – and also the year that I really started to take my skincare seriously. One of the parts of my skincare routine which I really wanted to improve on was my cleansing and the Magnitone Barefaced Brush from the Limited Edition Shimmer Collection has found a perfect place in my daily skincare routine.

The Magnitone Barefaced Brush is designed to enhance daily skin cleansing and boost the microcirculation of the skin. The box contains the facial cleansing brush, a wireless USB travel charger, a travel bag, an active clean brush head and a stimulator brush head. It’s the perfect Christmas gift for any beauty lovers to find underneath their Christmas tree this Christmas – or for anyone who wishes to really improve on their skincare this new year (yourself included!). This Christmas, Magnitone have released a limited edition gorgeous rose gold brush, as well as a pretty pastel blue shade.[/pipdig_padded_text]

Cleansing your skin properly and ensuring that all traces of makeup, excess oils and dirt and removed from your skin is essential for good skin health, to tone this skin and in order to ensure that any skincare products that you apply to your skin afterwards are properly absorbed and are therefore able to work more effectively.[/pipdig_padded_text]

The product is incredibly easy to use and can be used in two different ways – the daily cleansing mode that encourages you to cleanse your face using the brush for 1 minute, with beeps every 20 seconds to let you know when to move on to a different part of your face (t-zone, cheeks, neck). If you want to give your skin an even deeper cleanser, you can also use the toning mode which works to boost the circulation in your skin, helping you achieve a gorgeous glow, even in the colder winter months.[/pipdig_padded_text]

I have only recently added the Magnitone Barefaced to my skincare routine yet I can already tell that it has made a difference to my skin. Not only does it look much clearer (and has helped with any spot breakouts I have experienced) but it also feels much softer, which is not something that I normally experience when the weather gets cold in winter!

This Christmas, the Magnitone Barefaced is on a fantastic offer and you can actually save £40 off the RRP. Available from Boots.

I’m pretty sure you’d know by now that I am a big fan of face masks! I love treating myself to a good old face mask once or twice a week as part of my evening pamper routine. I find that taking some time out to care for my skin can really help my de-stress and using a good quality face mask can really make a difference to the way my skin looks and feels.

Botanics | The Drugstore Skincare Brand Definitely Worth Checking Out

Good skincare can be pricey. However, when I came across the Botanics range and tested it out, I realised that there’s something rather special about this drugstore brand. Not only is it affordable but it’s also a very effective skincare range – one that is pretty much on par with some of the more high-end skincare products that I love.

Botanics is a natural skincare brand available exclusively at Boots. The brand has several ranges which target different skin types:

  • Hydration Burst range, which is enriched with Clary Sage and is great for nourishing dry skin
  • All Bright range, which contains Hibiscus and targets dull skin
  • Radiant Youth range, powdered by Ginkgo to target the early signs of ageing
  • Triple Age Renewal range, which contains Purple Orchid to plump and smoothen ageing skin
  • Organic range, which contains Rosehip to nourish the skin and help restore its glow

As my skin tends to get quite dry in the autumn/winter I decided to give the Hydration Burst range a spin over the past month. As I mention, this range is enriched with Clary Sage – a plant that has a self-activating ability to store water in dry conditions, thereby making it the perfect ingredient to help retain moisture in dry, dehydrated skin.

[/pipdig_right] [pipdig_padded_text]

Botanics Hydration Burst Micellar Cleanser

I use micellar cleansers every night to remove my makeup as I find they are so easy and efficient to use – just pop some onto a cotton pad, wipe over any makeup you wish to remove and you’re done! This micellar water from the Botanics Hydration Burst range has an ultra-mild yet very effective formula, specifically designed for dry and sensitive skin and is great for removing makeup from the face, eyes and lips. It is alcohol-free and infused with Clary Sage, ensuring that your skin doesn’t feel tight or dry once you have removed your makeup. Available here.[/pipdig_padded_text]

Botanics Hydration Burst Dual Action Cleanser

This is probably my favourite item from the entire range – it is such a clever product! This is described as a ‘dual action’ cleanser, which really intrigued me. When you squeeze the product out of the tube, it comes out as a rich gel with a very mild clean floral scent. You massage the gel on to dry skin then wet your hands and massage the product further into your skin whilst it magically transforms into a hydrating milk cleanser! This makes it feel really moisturising on the skin and it also makes rinsing the product off your face really quick. I am always left with super soft, nourished skin after using this, making it a product I’d highly recommend! Available here.[/pipdig_padded_text]

Botanics Hydration Burst Light Serum

Ahh, a light serum – there’s nothing my skin enjoys drinking up more! I really enjoy using serums before using a moisturiser on my face as I find that they can make a huge difference to the way my skin looks and feels. The Botanics Hydration Burst Light Serum feels really gentle on the skin, calming any sensitivity whilst locking in moisture. A definite must-have if you’re after a fuss-free serum that does what it says on the (metaphorical) tin. Available here.[/pipdig_padded_text]

Botanics Hydration Burst Day Cream

I’m normally in a bit of a rush in the mornings, so if I do take the time to moisturise before applying my makeup, I’d normally only do so with a lightweight moisturiser that is quickly absorbed into the skin (after all, who has time to wait around in the mornings!?) The Botanics Hydration Burst Day Cream is a lightweight moisturiser that moisturises the skin without leaving it feeling greasy. It’s gentle, natural ingredients mean that it is great for sensitive skin and leaves the skin feeling soft and refreshed. Available here.

Have you tried anything from the Botanics range?

Caudalie French Kiss in ‘Innocence’

I’m a self-confessed lip balm addict and I often find myself re-applying lip balm to my lips several times a day. Caudalie have recently released their first ever tinted lip balm, and of course I couldn’t wait to give this a go.

Caudalie is a brand that I love when it comes to skincare. The French skincare brand focuses on using natural and organic ingredients in their products with no added nasties.[/pipdig_padded_text]

The new French Kiss collection of tinted lip balms have been designed to moisturiser, protect and illuminate the lips. These contain Caudalie’s signature grape-seed polyphenols to ensure super soft kissable lips as well as softening beeswax, aloe vera, castor oil and sunflower oil. This combination of ingredients is rich in anti-oxidants and great for repairing dry or chapped lips without any of the unnecessary stickiness experienced with so many lip balms![/pipdig_padded_text]

The French Kiss lip balms come in 3 shades – Innocence, a natural lip shade with an orange-vanilla flavour, Seduction, a tinted rose shade with a vanilla flavour, and Addiction, which gives a raspberry red tint to the lips and has a very apt red berry flavour. I was recently sent the shade ‘Innocence’ and have been trying this out over the past few weeks.[/pipdig_padded_text]

Perhaps because this is the lightest shade in the range, I found that Innocence does not give much of a tint to the lips, but more of a flattering, illuminating effect. It looks perfect as part of a natural daytime makeup look, which is what I normally wear to the office and is therefore great for reapplying throughout the day at work. In fact, I normally keep this on my desk to keep my lips moisturised throughout the working day.

I absolutely love the scent/flavour of this lip balm as it smells so sweet and sort of satisfies my very sweet tooth! In addition to this, I really like how non-sticky this lip balm is compared to some of the others I own, making this an absolute pleasure to apply and re-apply throughout the day.

If you’re on the hunt for a new lip balm this autumn/winter, I’d definitely recommend giving the Caudalie French Kiss lip balms a go – available here.[/pipdig_padded_text]
