Inside My Makeup Bag | Five Current Favourites

[pipdig_padded_text]

Although I love trying out new beauty products and discover new gems, there are some makeup items and tools that I just keep reaching for! Today I’ll be taking a look inside my makeup bag and sharing my current favourite items with you.

MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation

MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation (shade NW20) has become the only powder that I ever use. No matter how many other powders I try, I always go back to this one! It is great at setting my makeup in place and helping it last as long as possible throughout the day, but what I love about it most is that it also has some additional coverage that works well over any foundation (or alone) to help me achieve a more smooth and clear complexion. I’ve already got my backup sorted! Read my full reviewAvailable here.

NARS Dual Intensity Blush in ‘Fervor’

This is the first NARS product I had ever tried and it has been my go-to blush since around March last year! The ‘Fervor’ blush comes with two shades – a peach/coral blush and a burgundy blush, both of which have a slight shimmer to them and add a gorgeous glow to the cheeks, without having to add any highlight. Apart from looking gorgeous on the cheeks, both of these blushers last incredibly long throughout the day. Worth every single penny! Read my full reviewAvailable here.

Rubis Switzerland Classic ProGrip Tweezers

Dubbed the ‘Ferrari of tweezers’ by the legendary Bobbi Brown, I knew I should expect great things from the Rubis Switzerland tweezers, and I was not disappointed! These tweezers feel really sturdy and are incredibly precise. They have a great grip and although they cost a bit more than what I would usually pay for a pair of tweezers, they are worth the price! I’d highly recommend these if you’re after a really good pair of tweezers. Available here.[/pipdig_padded_text]

Benefit Gimme Brow Volumising Eyebrow Gel

I’ve been a big fan of the Benefit Gimme Brow Volumising Eyebrow Gel for years now. It’s just so quick and easy to use, making it perfect for a quick makeup look before work in the morning. Although I prefer using something more ‘heavy duty’ such as the Benefit KA! Brow when I want to achieve a more precise arch in my brows, Gimme Brow is the one I reach for most often. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in ‘Bond Girl’

After falling in love with Charlotte Tilbury’s lipstick formula, I had my eye on the shade ‘Bond Girl’ for quite a while – and I was so happy when I finally got my hands on it! It’s the perfect day-to-night shade that’s in between a rose, nude brown and berry shade. Of course, it comes in my favourite Charlotte Tilbury lipstick formulation – Matte Revolution – which doesn’t dry out the lips and lasts really (really) long too! Read my full review. Available here.

Have you tried any of these products yourself?

The Ultimate Multi-Tasker & MAC Woodwinked Dupe from Topshop

[pipdig_padded_text]

MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow was my first ever venture into the world of MAC, and to this day it remains one of my favourite eyeshadows. However, I recently discovered that I had a pretty amazing MAC Woodwinked dupe in my makeup bag all along – surprisingly, this was in the form of a Topshop highlighter!

I was sent the Topshop Highlighter in the shade ‘Horizon’ as part of a PR package a while ago, and at first I thought it looked a bit too dark to work as a highlighter on my skin. But as I experimented with the product and applied it to my eyes I discovered that not only did it work really well as an eyeshadow (just blended out quickly using my ring finger!) but it also looked spookily similar to my beloved MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow! Can you tell that I’m wearing MAC Woodwinked on one eye and the Topshop highlighter on my other eye in all these photos!?[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

The Topshop Highlighter in ‘Horizon’ is incredibly pigmented for a highlighter and funnily enough, it’s my go-to eyeshadow on those days when I haven’t got enough time to apply actual eyeshadow! I just swipe some of the product across my eyes using my ring finger, blend it out and I’m good to go! It stays put on my eyes just as long as any eyeshadow and it’s golden bronze shade looks super pretty too!

Apart from being an incredible eyeshadow, it also works well as a bronzing highlighter – even on my fair skintone. Using a very light hand, I apply this to my cheeks when I want a bronze sunkissed glow.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]And in case you couldn’t tell… I’m wearing MAC Woodwinked on my left eye (closest to the door handle in the photo above) and Topshop’s Highlighter in ‘Horizon’ on my right eye! Which one is your favourite!?

Top 3 MAC Eyeshadows For Green Eyes

Top 3 MAC Eyeshadows For Green Eyes

Whatever your eye colour, choosing the right shade of eyeshadow can really make your eyes pop. Ever since I first started to experiment with wearing makeup (around 10 years ago – eeek!), I’ve always loved trying out different shades. Today I’ll be sharing my top 3 MAC eyeshadows for green eyes – because, who doesn’t love a MAC eyeshadow!?

Green eyes look gorgeous when contrasted against red and purple tones – however this may not always seem wearable, especially on your eyes! Below are 3 MAC eyeshadows with the right undertones to make green eyes look even more beautiful – yet they’re still perfectly wearable for everyday!

Top 3 MAC Eyeshadows For Green Eyes

1. MAC Woodwinked

MAC Woodwinked was my first ever purchase from MAC and as you can see, it’s one that has been well-loved! Woodwinked is a gorgeous antique gold shade with warm undertones which look incredible with green eyes, especially if you’ve got gold flecks in your eyes. This has a slight duo-chrome effect, so when it is blended out (such as in the outer crease), it transforms into a more red-toned bronze colour and looks as though you’ve got more than one eyeshadow on – perfect for when you want to create a beautiful eyeshadow look when you’re in a rush. I love wearing this on its own with some black liquid liner, but it also blends really nicely with other gold/bronze/brown shades.

2. MAC Amber Lights

I dedicated an entire post to MAC Amber Lights last year, and just how amazing it looks with green eyes. Amber Lights is a shimmery gold-copper shade with very warm undertones that make your eyes appear brighter and help to make blue and green eyes really stand out! Although the colour may appear a little bit more out-there than some other shades, you can use it to add a subtle pop of colour to your makeup by blending it out using a fluffy brush, just like I did here.

3. MAC Sable

MAC Sable is hands-down one of the most underrated MAC products of all time. It is described by MAC as a ‘gold-plum with bronze pearl’ shade – to me, it’s just like MAC Satin Taupe’s warm-toned sister and it is one of my favourite eyeshadows and one that I can always count on when I really want my eyes to stand out, with minimal effort involved. It’s shimmery but not glittery so it can easily be worn when you want to go for a more natural daytime look, and it also works well if you want to go for a more smokey look. Check out this post to find out why I believe MAC Sable deserves way more recognition!

WHAT’S IN MY TRAVEL MAKEUP BAG

Travel Makeup Bag

One of my favourite things to do is travel to new places!  Earlier this week, I spent a few days in Italy, which I really enjoyed.  And so I thought I would share with you what I packed in my travel makeup bag!

THE BASE PRODUCTS

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25Hr Nude Foundation in ‘Ivory’.

This has been my go-to foundation lately, so I couldn’t possibly leave this behind!  It offers a medium-full coverage, feels comfortable on the skin and most importantly, it’s incredibly long-lasting.  It also feels moisutrising – making it perfect for using after flying!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in ‘Ivory’.

This is one of my favourite concealers for covering up any under-eye dark circles.  It’s incredibly creamy and really brightens up the skin!

MAC Studio Fix Powder in ‘NW20’.

I bought this foundation at the beginning of summer, and I love it!  It keeps all my makeup in place and helps it last a lot longer.  It helps to mattify any shine and also provides some additional coverage.

Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder in ’51’.

I’ve been using this bronzer for a while now and find that it’s perfect for dusting over the high points of my face for a bit of a glow.  Shade 51 is not too orange and is great for those with fair skin.

ELF Cosmetics Baked Blush in ‘Rich Rose’.

Another old favourite of mine, this baked blush from ELF acts both as a blush and as a highlight.  I enjoy packing this whenever I travel as the packaging is so small and compact, so no space is wasted.  Review here.

THE EYE PRODUCTS

Urban Decay Naked Palette.

I find it so hard to pick just one palette to pack when travelling!  Although the Urban Decay Naked Palette is definitely not the most travel-friendly palette due to its size, I convinced myself that it has pretty much any eyeshadow shade I might possibly want to use #noregrets!

L’Oreal Superliner Black Lacquer Waterproof.

I recently spoke about how much I love this liquid eyeliner – and it’s definitely one I reach for when travelling.  It’s easy to apply, very highly pigmented and although it’s not completely waterproof, it’s super long-lasting and looks just as great throughout the day as it does when it is first applied. Review here.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara.

This mascara does it all – it defines, it lengthens and it volumises the lashes.  And although the packaging is a bit bulky, I couldn’t resist packing this! Review here.

THE LIP PRODUCTS

MAC Lipstick in ‘Brave’.

My all-time favourite neutral lipstick shade, MAC Brave, could not be left behind!  I find that it’s the perfect lipstick shade as it looks good with pretty much any makeup look, it goes on smoothly (even when you’ve got those dreaded post-flight dry lips!) and it lasts around 4-6 hours on the lips. See it in action here.

Topshop Sheer Lips in ‘Chuck’.

This is the more moisturising lipstick that I packed – a gorgeous, sheer berry lipstick from Topshop!  Although this does not last as long on the lips as MAC Brave, it really helps to moisturise the lips – something that I always require after flying! Review here.

TOP 3 GOLD/BRONZE EYESHADOWS FOR AUTUMN INC. SWATCHES

I pretty much wear gold and bronze toned eyeshadows all year round.  However, there’s something a bit more special about wearing gold/bronze shades during autumn and throughout the buildup for Christmas!

I’ve managed to narrow down my top 3 gold/bronze eyeshadow shades for autumn.  Read on to find out more!

1. Makeup Revolution Iconic 3 Palette ‘Shade 6’

I’ve previously spoken about my love for the Makeup Revolution Iconic 3 palette, which is an amazing dupe for the Naked 3 palette here.  The palette, which altogether costs £4 contains one of my favourite gold eyeshadow shades when I want to go for a rose-toned gold shade.  The 6th shade in the palette, which is a dupe for ‘Trick’ in the Naked 3, is the most pink-toned/coppery shade in my top 3 gold/bronze eyeshadows (and also the most affordable!).  It looks great applied over the centre of the lid with a cool-toned brown shade in the crease.

2. Urban Decay Naked Palette ‘Smog’

The Urban Decay Naked palette is one that I reach for at least once or twice a week as it’s got an amazing range of neutral shades, and the quality is great!  Smog is a deep bronze-gold shade, which is so versatile.  I apply this in my crease or outer corner when I want to go for a lighter, more natural daytime look.  However, this also looks great applied all over the eyelid and blended out using a matte brown shade in the crease!  It’s gorgeous!

3. MAC ‘Woodwinked’

A beauty blogger favourite, there’s just something special about MAC ‘Woodwinked’!  It is described as a warm, antique gold/bronze shade.  I love wearing this alone and blending it out in the crease, which (magically?) makes it look slightly more dark/orange, giving the impression that you’re wearing more than one eyeshadow.  It’s the most long-lasting of all 3 eyeshadow shades mentioned and definitely the most buttery.  You can’t go wrong with MAC eyeshadows!  Read more about my MAC Neutrals palette here.

GLOWY AUTUMN MAKEUP | MY EVERYDAY MAKEUP

Autumn is finally here!  And so I decided to (slightly) change up my everyday makeup for the new season.  Lately, I’ve been opting for a glowy, rather than matte, base.  And although I’m not a huge fan of dark berry lips, I decided to go for a gold-purple subtle eye and my favourite pink-mauve lipstick.  Read on to find out what products I used!

BASE

  • Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation in Ivory. This provides a medium-coverage, satin finish and is very long lasting.
  • Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory. My all-time favourite concealer for dark under-eye circles.
  • Bourjois Bronzing Primer. This can be used under or over foundation for a bronzed look and to help your foundation last even longer on the skin.
  • Benefit Rockateur Blusher. A dark, rose-mauve shade.  An autumn staple.
  • MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. This adds a little bit of extra coverage and is perfect for setting the T-zone.
  • Topshop Glow Stick. The secret behind my glowy look! I added some of this to the tops of my cheek bones.

EYES

  • Sleek iDivine Vintage Romance Palette. Shades: Court in Cannes, Forever in Florence and Propose in Prague. I applied Court in Cannes, a golden shade, all over my lid.  I then applied Forever in Florence, a dark purple shade on the outer corner of my lids, and finally I applied Propose in Prague, a matte warm-brown shade to my crease.  Unfortunately the colours don’t show up as well in my photos until I get my new camera!
  • L’Oreal Superliner Black Lacquer Waterproof. My new favourite liquid liner. I speak about this in my September Favourites.
  • Maybelline The Falsies Mascara. LOVE this mascara as it adds lots of length and volume!

LIPS

  • MAC Brave.  This has been my go-to everyday lipstick ever since I bought it earlier this year.  Check out my review here.

HUGE BEAUTY HAUL | BOOTS, MAC

I have recently found myself running out of some of my favourite beauty items.  So, on my recent trip to Edinburgh I decided to pop into Boots to stock up.  I also decided to check out the MAC store at Gatwick Airport where I finally bought something that had been on my wishlist for a while.

 1. Soap and Glory Rich and Foamous Body Wash

2. Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Wash

My first stop was the Soap and Glory aisle, where I decided to pick up two body wash products.  Both these products are repurchases – I love using Sugar Crush in the summer months as it has got such a fresh scent, and Rich and Foamous is great for bedtime showers as the scent is so delicious and soothing.

3. Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub

As Soap and Glory products were on 3 for 2 at Boots I decided to also repurchase one of my all-time favourite body scrubs.  You can check out my review here.  Also, if you’re a fan of the Sugar Crush scent check out all of Soap and Glory’s BRAND NEW Sugar Crush products including a fragrance mist, body spray and body lotion here.

4. Aussie Shower Smoothie Body Wash

5. Aussie No Rush Body Wash

As you may have noticed I went slightly Body Wash mad on my trip to Boots!  Aussie is one of my favourite hair care brands as I love the scent and how soft it makes my hair feel.  So I was so excited when I found out that Aussie have just released their very own body washes.  I have so far tried the Shower Smoothie Body Wash, which smells very similar to the original Aussie scent and also leaves my skin feeling so soft!

6. Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo

7. Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner

As I was on holiday I decided to purchase the travel sized Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner, which are infused with Australian Macadamia Nut Oil.  This range from Aussie is one which I find helps keep my dry hair feeling soft and moisturised, and as I mentioned earlier – it smells amazing!

8. OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Shampoo

9. OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Conditioner

The benefits of coconut water for keeping hydrated are well known – and after having heard some great stuff about the coconut water shampoo and conditioner range from OGX I decided to pick some up.  Both the shampoo and conditioner smell exactly like fresh coconut, which I love, especially for the summer.  I can’t wait to try these out!

 10. L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

This is also an item I decided to purchase after hearing great stuff about it from other bloggers.  I was on the hunt for something that would offer heat protection as well as keep my hair feeling soft and frizz-free – and this sounded perfect.  After having tried the product twice so far I can say that I am so impressed, as it is unlike any other hair product I have tried.  It is non-greasy, keeps my hair feeling super soft and looking healthy.  Full review coming soon!

11. L‘Oreal Paris Color Riche Exclusive Nudes in ‘Barely Golden by Eva Longoria’

I have been searching for the perfect nude shade for summer – and I have finally found it!  This lipstick by L’Oreal is a warm peachy nude, which compliments my fair skin quite nicely.  It has a creamy consistency, opaque finish and is very moisturising on the lips – although this does mean that you may need to top it up more frequently.  Full review coming soon!

12. Maybelline The Falsies Volum’ Express Black Drama

As I forgot to pack my mascara when I went away on holiday I decided to pick up and old trusty favourite of mine.  I initially intended on purchasing the new Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, it was out of stock.  However, The Falsies mascara did not disappoint – it really does add so much length and volume to my lashes!

13. MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation

As I was travelling through Gatwick Airport I thought I would make the most out of the World Duty Free shop, and get hold of the MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation.  As the weather has got warmer, I have not been enjoying wearing liquid foundation as I find it feels so sticky on my skin and doesn’t last long, so I thought I would try out a powder foundation instead.  So far I have been loving this – it offers medium coverage, keeps any shine at bay and is quite long lasting on my skin.  Although I am an NW15 in Studio Fix Fluid, I found that the NW20 complimented my skin much better with this product!

I hope you enjoyed my huge beauty haul!  What’s on your beauty wishlist this month?

MAC BRAVE | MY EVERYDAY GO-TO LIPSTICK

MAC Brave

Changing your lipstick is one of the easiest ways of updating your makeup look, whether it’s going from day to night, or winter to spring.  However, I’m always on the hunt for the perfect, easy-to-wear everyday shade that’s suitable for any time of year – and I think I may have found this in the form of MAC Brave.

MAC Brave was pretty much impossible to get hold of since the end of last year as it was sold out everywhere, due to it being part of the famous ‘Kylie Jenner Lip Combo’ along with MAC Soar lip pencil.  Although I’m not a huge Kardashian fan, I thought ‘Brave’ looked lovely on so many other bloggers, and I was so happy to finally get my hands on it a few months ago!

MAC Brave is a rosy pink-neutral shade, which suits pretty much all skin tones.  It’s the perfect shade to compliment virtually any eye makeup look, both during the daytime and at night.  It comes in a satin finish – which means that it’s not too matte and not too glossy – a perfect in-between, semi-matte finish.  The formula is not drying on the lips and I have found that it lasts pretty well on my lips too – around 6 hours!  The lipstick has great colour pay-off, which is great as you don’t need to apply too much!

You can see what MAC Brave looks like on me on my recent post.

I would highly recommend MAC Brave to anyone looking for an easy-to-wear everyday shade that’s long-lasting, not drying and can compliment any makeup look.

MAC Brave is available from John Lewis.

MY EVERYDAY MAKEUP | UPDATED

NATURAL MAKEUP

It’s been over a year since I last blogged about my everyday makeup, and I have since then changed a lot of the products that I use on most days.  So, here is my everyday makeup – updated!

The Face.

I tend to go for more natural/neutral make up look on most days.  I start by applying some Benefit The Porefessional over the more oily parts of my face, as I find this helps my makeup last longer throughout the day.  I then apply L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Rose Vanilla all over my face and blend it with my fingers.  This has a medium coverage which is not too dewy and not too matte – it is the perfect in-between!  I don’t tend to use a brush to blend this foundation as due to it’s very liquidy formula, I find it easier to blend with my fingers – and it gives a more natural finish.  I then apply some Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory underneath my eyes – this is perfect for concealing dark circles as it’s quite brightening.  However, for this reason I opt for a different concealer to hide any blemishes – I use the Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer in Light for this.  Again, I blend both concealers with my fingers rather than a brush.  I then powder my face using the L’Oreal True Match Powder in Rose Vanilla as this mattifies the skin and adds a little more coverage.  For this I use the Real Techniques Powder Brush (I do use brushes after all!) – I love this brush as it is so soft and fluffy!  I then apply some of the Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder in 51 on my forehead and cheeks – and anywhere the sun would naturally hit (and yet still fail to give me a tan!).  Finally, I use the Real Techniques Blush Brush to apply some of my favourite blusher, the ELF Baked Blush in Rich Rose (Review here).  I love this blush so much as the colour is so warm and it acts as a 2-in-1 blush and highlight.

The Eyes.

I start by filling in my eyebrows using the Sleek Brow Kit in Light (which I reviewed here).  Then I apply the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original all over my eyelids.  I find that this helps my eyeshadow to last so much longer than it otherwise would without fading or creasing!  I then reach for my MAC Neutrals palette (which you can see here) and pack All That Glitters all over my eyelid.  I then apply Woodwinked on the outer half of my eyelid and blend the two together.  Finally I apply some Charcoal Brown in the crease to add some definition, and blend.  For this I use two brushes; The No7 Eye Colour Brush and the No7 Eyeshadow Blend & Contour Brush, both of which I love!  I then apply the Soap and Glory Supercat Liquid Black Eyeliner Pen (review here) as close to my upper lash line as possible, and add a little flick.  I finish off my eyes by applying lots of mascara – right now I am loving the L’Oreal Million Lashes Volume Excess Waterproof Mascara (review + before/after pics here).

The Lips.

I like to keep my lips as natural as possible and don’t tend to go for bright colours on a regular basis.  At the moment I am loving the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya as it adds some colour, gloss and moisture!

I hope you enjoyed this post!  Let me know if you’d like similar posts ft. different makeup looks.
