Top 3 Ways To Chill Out In Spring

[pipdig_padded_text]

There’s nothing I love more than a good chill out sesh! Although you may not associate spring with long, hot baths and snuggly onesies – there are still some great ways to relax and pamper yourself on a sunny spring day.

1. Shower Power

Showers are definitely a lot more appealing than baths, especially after a warm day out. Make the most out of your shower to really chill out by punchy, zesty scents to feel refreshed (I particularly love fruity, citrus scents when I want a little pick-me-up shower before heading out!), whilst soothing floral scents are great for evening chill out time. Invest in a waterproof speaker you can use whilst you’re in the shower, such as the Panasonic Waterproof Bluetooth speaker to blast out your favourite tunes whilst you’re in the shower – and maybe have a cheeky little shower dance whilst you’re at it, to release all the feel-good hormones!

2. Podcast Time

Over the past year or so, I’ve really gotten into listening to podcasts! In fact, I recently published a post all about the 3 podcasts I’d 100% recommend, even if you’re not really into podcasts (yet)! Nowadays, it seems like new podcasts are popping up left, right and centre, and there’s a podcast out there for everyone! I find that listening to podcasts really helps me to chill out and take my mind off anything that is stressing me out at the time.

3. Head Outside

Spring brings along with it warmer and sunnier, longer days – and it would be a shame not to make the most out of it! Head outside for an evening walk after work or an afternoon walk at the weekend. You could also organise a picnic in the garden or a nearby park and take in the fresh air, and the sounds of the chirping birds and buzzing bees to really unwind in nature. Check out my previous post on how to make the most out of sunny spring days.[/pipdig_padded_text]

3 Podcasts To Listen To If You’re Not Really Into Podcasts

[pipdig_padded_text]

Up until the last year or so, I wasn’t really into podcasts. In fact, I don’t think many people were. However, nowadays it seems like great podcasts have been popping up left, right and centre! There’s a podcast out there for everyone – and if you haven’t yet found one that you enjoy, today I will be sharing 3 podcasts which are well worth listening to!

Is It Just Me?

I owe my current love for podcasts to this little gem! Presented by ex-Glamour editor Jo Elvin and her colleague James Williams, this is the first podcast that I started listening to (back when it was called ‘Hey It’s Ok’). Each week, Jo and James are joined by a celebrity guest (Caroline Flack, Tanya Burr, Leona Lewis, etc.) where they discuss all the most important topics in life. Past topics include friendship break-ups, the (sometimes) awkward topic of friends’ partners, slagging off things you haven’t seen… and even whether it’s ok to not always have to push yourself outside your comfort zone – a topic I suggested based on one of my previous posts.

The Fringe of It

Top bloggers Liv Purvis and Charlotte Jacklin started their podcast, ‘The Fringe of It’ earlier this year – and I was convinced right from the pilot episode, that this would be a podcast I will be obsessed with! It’s a bit like meeting up with two friends for a cup of tea and having a good old catch up, with plenty of great recommendations (TV, music, fashion, beauty, anything!) and some really interesting discussion. Past topics include talking to strangers, getting out of a funk and body image. There’s also a Facebook group that goes alongside the podcast, which is a lovely little community of like-minded friendly people, and is well worth checking out too!

What She Said

If you’re a blogger or you simply love learning more about the blogging world in general, ‘What She Said’ is a brilliant podcast! In each episode, Lucy Lucraft speaks to a different blogger/influencer and basically asks them all the questions that we want to know the answers too! I love listening to this podcast when I’m lacking blogging-inspo and equally when I feel like I’m on top of my game and want to discover more on what it’s like behind-the-scenes from some of my favourite bloggers. I’ve also learning some really great tips and tricks from listening to this podcast that have really helped me with my own blog!

What is your favourite podcast? I’d love your recommendations!

Why Having Pen Friends Should Still Be A Thing in 2018

[pipdig_padded_text]

Many of us remember having pen friends back when we were at school. However, more recently pen friends seem to have become a thing of the past. With social media, emails and texts nowadays – who would think that pen friends still existed!? Well, a couple of months ago I remembered about a pen friends club I was part of when I was 10 years old – and after a quick Google search, I discovered that the club is still around today! So I decided to sign up… and I realised that I’m not the only one who still thinks pen friends are relevant in 2018!

The club I joined up to is called ‘International Pen Friends’ (IPF) (#notspon). The way it works is that you fill in a registration form with your details, including your hobbies, and what sort of pen friends you are after, including the countries they come from and the gender. Once you sign up and pay a small registration fee, IPF match you up with other people from all over the world in your age group, and within a few weeks, you are sent a list of 15 pen friends to write to. Your details are also passed on to a further 10 people, so you are included in the list of pen friends they receiving when they join.

And since I joined up earlier this year, I’ve 100% fallen back in love with having pen friends!

You immerse yourself in something tech-free

The main reason I re-discovered my old pen friends club is because I wanted to do something that does not involve looking at my computer or phone screen. Corresponding with pen friends involves no technology at all – you hand write your letter on (actual!) stationery and post it off at your local post office. It’s so old school, but so relaxing too. It’s great for slowing things down and a reminder of times when you wouldn’t expect to hear back from someone in an instant. It’s pretty eye-opening!

You actually get to put pen to paper

…And realise that your handwriting isn’t anywhere as neat as it used to be! I love writing, which is one of the reasons why I started this blog. However, most of what I write is on my laptop or phone. I type more than I write, and I really missed actually putting pen to paper and hand writing a letter on some pretty looking stationery. Which brings me to…

You have a great excuse to buy more amazing stationery

I know I’m not the only one out there who just loooooooves stationery! I love pens, notepads, coloured and patterned paper. Yet I normally stop myself from buying too much stationery because I don’t really get to use it much. Since getting back into writing letters, I have really enjoyed getting to use all my pens and writing paper that have been gathering dust for the last few years. And of course, it’s also a great excuse to get your hands on more stationery!

You get excited about receiving letters in the post

We’ve all experienced the joy and excitement that comes with receiving something in the post (that’s not a bill, etc.). However, most of the time this would be something that we’d ordered and spent money on online. As hobbies go, having pen friends isn’t that expensive. Of course, you’ve got to spend some money on writing paper, pens and postage – but that’s still far less than spending money on a big old ASOS haul! Plus, you get to receive letters from other like-minded people from different countries, right in your letter box!

You make friends from different countries

Of course, one of the best things about having pen friends is that you get to make friends with people from all over the world. Nothing quite beats the feeling of discovering similarities you’ve got with someone who lives half way around the globe and building a friendship through your letters!

Do you have any pen friends? Is it something that you’d like to give a go?

A Little Life Update | April 2018

[pipdig_padded_text]

Things have been a little bit quieter than usual on the blog over the past few weeks, and as I had some free time this Saturday morning, I decided to spend some time on my little corner of the web and update you on all the little bits that have been going on in my life whilst I haven’t been so active on my blog. So, where have I been?

1. I re-joined my old pen friends club

Work has been pretty SUPER busy over the last few weeks (I’m currently helping to organise a conference, and helping design a Masters degree amongst many other things!), so I’ve been enjoying spending some time away from all things tech when I get home – and hence, blogging slightly less. A few weeks ago I’d mentioned that I would be re-joining my old pen friends club in my post on ‘8 things you can do the old-fashioned way‘, and I have been spending quite some time writing letters to my new pen friends. I just love sitting down to write a good old handwritten letter – it’s incredibly relaxing, especially after looking at my computer/phone screen all day, and also a fantastic way of making new friends from all over the world! Let me know if you’d be interested in a more detailed blog post about this.

2. I turned 26

Back at the beginning of the month, on 3rd April, I celebrated my 26th birthday. It still feels so strange saying that I’m now 26 – it takes a few weeks/months of getting used to your new age after your birthday, doesn’t it!? When I was younger and imagined myself as a 26 year old, I had a slightly different picture in my head of what I’d be like by now – but I guess it’s the same for most of us, right? I celebrated my birthday by going out for a meal at one of my favourite restaurants with my family although things didn’t completely go to plan as just a few minutes after we arrived at the restaurant, there was a power cut in the area and we could only order food from a small section of the menu! This wasn’t all that bad though as we all got to eat pizza that was baked in a traditional stone oven, YUM!! The following weekend I spent a couple of days in London as a birthday treat where I did lots of shopping with my mum (haul coming soon!) and spent a lovely day out with my boyfriend.

3. I’ve been watching a bit too much Netflix

Towards the end of last year I was sort of losing interest in Netflix as there wasn’t much on there that I was enjoying watching. However, fast forward a few months and I’ve been spending a bit too much time on Netflix lately! I finally finished watching all 4 seasons of Peaky Blinders which I would highly recommend (although season 4 wasn’t on Netflix, booooo!). I’m also loving the fact that Bake Off is now on Netflix so I can re-watch all my Mary Berry faves, and I’ve also really been enjoying Collateral (great if you love a good murder that isn’t too scary!), Big Dreams Small Spaces (letting my inner 80 year old come out by watching this super chilled out gardening show) and Mary Portas: Secret Shopper (WHY OH WHY ARE THERE ONLY 3 EPISODES OF THIS ON NETFLIX!). I’d love to know what you’ve been loving on Netflix too! Please send me any recommendations you may have.

So that’s it from me for the month of April. I really hope you enjoyed this rather spontaneous and chatty post from me! What’s the one thing you’ve been enjoying this month?

Quick & Easy Ways To Update Your Living Room This Spring

[pipdig_padded_text]

Now is the perfect time of year for a bit of spring cleaning – tidying up all the parts of your house that you normally tend to forget about and getting rid of anything that may be cluttering up your space. However, apart from disposing of anything that doesn’t bring you any happiness anymore, it’s a great time to update your living space in time for the upcoming spring and summer months. Out with the old, and in with the new!

Today I’ll be sharing some quick and easy ways to update your living room this spring.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Window Blinds

As the days gradually start to get sunnier, window blinds can make a great addition to your living room. Not only will some new window blinds give your living room a new lease of life and look very chic, but they are also very handy to keep some of the sun’s brightness and glare out of the room, especially as the days get longer. You can opt for pleated blinds if you’re after something stylish and contemporary. A cream or off-white colour will help soften the overall appearance of the room, making it feel dreamy!

Cushions

Decorating your living room with a new set of cushions is one of the easiest ways of transforming a tired-looking room into a fresh new space – all with minimal effort! There’s nothing quite like some new (and very plump!) set of cushions on your sofa to make you want to curl up with a good book or relax whilst watching some TV with your loved ones.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Throws

Whether you’ve already got some old throws in your living room, or even if your living room is a throw-free-zone (shock, horror!), spring is a great time to get your hands on one or two new ones to give your living room a new lease of life. Throws are a fantastic way of adding colour and texture to your living room – and the best bit about them is that there are so many affordable ones available. Opt for pastel or cream-coloured shades for this spring and summer.

Artwork

Walls looking a bit sorry for themselves? Artwork is the answer. Some people may consider artwork to be quite an expense when it comes to updating your home, but it really doesn’t have to be! There are so many online stores where you can buy contemporary and very stylish looking artwork that will instantly add some interest to your living room!

What’s your favourite way to update your living room?

Beauty And The Beaches: The Perfect Sandy Locations For 2018

[pipdig_padded_text]

When you think of a holiday, often what springs to mind is a beach… sand between your toes, waves lapping in the background, warm weather on your skin and perhaps a cocktail in hand. Perfect. But, there are some destinations in the world that offer the most beautiful beaches. The ones that you just have to walk on at some point in your life.

While taking some time to daydream, I thought I would share with you some of the top picks i have come across. Definite bucket list worthy destinations.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Los Cabos

When it comes to breathtaking beaches then Los Cabos in Mexico has it all. Staying in some of the resort’s popular locations such as the Fairfield Inn Los Cabos will give you all the usual holiday amenities. A water taxi can take you to Play Amor, where you will find Lovers beach and Divorce beach. Lovers beach is famous for its snorkelling and breathtaking scenery, but a quick walk through a hole in the rocks will take you to the other side called Divorce beach where swimming is not recommended due to the harsh waves and strong current.

Turks and Caicos

One of the most well-known and stunning beaches is in the Caribbean on the island of Turks and Caicos. Grace Bay beach gives you the picture perfect setting. White and glorious sandy beaches, blue water that will make your heart leap and warm to help you enjoy the stunning scenery of the beach and relax. Turks and Caicos is a great destination for a holiday, whether you choose to go with friends, as a couple or even as a family. There are accommodation options to suit all budgets and situations, making it a real diver location for your next holiday adventure.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Florida

Many people only associate Florida with Disney World, the attractions of Orlando and the vibrant city of Miami. But what it also has is some of the best beaches around and one of them is Clearwater. Clearwater is a city in Florida’s Tampa Bay, and is more associated with being old-fashioned Florida that offers a slower paced holiday for couples, friends and families. The beach itself is a three mile stretch of white sand and glorious sea, and always pops up on lists of some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

Sydney, Australia

Many people associate Sydney in Australia for the iconic sites or Bondi Beach, but actually Manly beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and happens to be situated among the northern beaches of Sydney. Manly itself is a bustling part of the region, and the beach is split into three as it is so big. Don’t forget your camera if you go here, the sunset and golden light offers perfect lighting for some beautiful captures.

What’s the best beach you’ve ever been to?

Quicky & Easy Ways To Update Your Bathroom This Spring

[pipdig_padded_text]

When you’re asked about what room you find the most relaxing in your home, you probably think about your bedroom – after all, that’s where all the beauty sleep happens! However, when you think about how beneficial a relaxing hot shower or bath is (and therefore just how much time you spend in your bathroom!), you may realise just how important it is to make your bathroom a place you enjoy spending time in.

A dated and unpleasant looking bathroom means that you aren’t able to relax whilst spending time in it. The good news is that there are several quick and easy ways to update your bathroom this spring. You can avail expert advice on bathroom design & fitting from Harrogate Bathrooms, and today I’ll also be sharing some of my favourite ways in which you can spruce up your bathroom this season.

Invest in some new spring-appropriate towels

One of the easiest ways to give your bathroom a mini-makeover this spring is by investing in some new towels. Think pastel shades such as pink, blue or mint and floral patterns. The best thing about this is that you can find some really good bargains and offers when shopping for new towels which shows that updating your bathroom really doesn’t have to cost a bomb!

Add a new piece of art

A single piece of art can completely transform the whole look and feel of a room – including your bathroom. Look out for floral prints for the spring and upcoming summer months to give your bathroom a summery vibe and bring a smile to your face whenever you enter the room.

[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Place a plant by the sink or bath

Bring some life to your bathroom by adding a small plant by the sink or bath. Apart from adding a splash of colour to the room, adding a potted plant or flower to your bathroom can also add a refreshing scent. Plants such as aloe vera, bamboo or orchid make perfect bathroom plants as they thrive in your bathroom’s more humid environment and require minimal natural light.

Change your shower curtain

Updating your shower curtain can instantly change the whole appearance of your bathroom (plus, who likes an old shower curtain anyway!?). Opt for a plain pastel coloured curtain, or if you prefer something a bit less minimalistic, a floral print design could work really well.

Add a cosy new bathroom mat

Nothing quite beats the feeling of stepping out of your shower and on to a plush new bathroom mat. With so many options available nowadays (at such bargain prices too!), adding a cosy new bathroom mat in plain white or – you guessed it! – a spring-appropriate pastel shade can give your bathroom a whole new appearance this spring.

What’s your favourite way to update your bathroom?

How To Make The Most Out of Sunny Spring Days

[pipdig_padded_text]

I must have mentioned just how much I love spring about a thousand times in the past few weeks! Sunny spring days are my absolute favourite kind of days and put me in the best mood. In today’s post I will be sharing some of my favourite ways on how to make the most out of sunny spring days.

Go outside and enjoy your garden

After the cold and rainy autumn and winter months, spring is the perfect time to go outside and enjoy your garden! Whether you plan on getting your gardening gloves out and planting some new flowers, or you simply want to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, spring is the perfect time to do so. Groupon have some fantastic garden deals available at the moment, which are well worth checking out. The start of spring is also the perfect time to treat yourself to a new lounge set for the garden, which you can make the most of over the upcoming warmer months.

Add some brightness to your wardrobe

Personally, I enjoy adding some colour to my wardrobe all year round. However, there’s something about spring fashion which I really, really love. The slightly warmer weather means ditching the super thick coats (which I love snuggling up in during the winter – but am getting slightly bored of now!) and going out in a pretty floral blouse tucked into a high-waisted skirt or jeans. This spring, I’m loving all the floral embroidery that’s available on the high street – this shirt from Topshop is my absolute fave! Not to forget all the gorgeous floral dresses that have suddenly made an appearance on my wish list.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Work out – outdoors!

The warmer, sunny days are perfect for working out outside. Sure, exercising indoors is definitely the more convenient option during the winter as it’s so cold and miserable outside – so going out for a run or practising some yoga in a quiet spot in your local park is a great way of making the most out of the lovely spring weather. I also find that this weather helps me feel more motivated to work out, and that’s definitely something I will be taking advantage of!

Picnics!

I love a good old picnic, and after a long, cold winter I simply cannot wait until mid-summer to go out and enjoy dining al fresco. Make the most out of a sunny weather forecast by gathering some friends, preparing (or buying some pre-made) sandwiches and pudding, and enjoying each other’s company in your local park.

What’s your favourite way of making the most out of sunny spring days?

[/pipdig_padded_text]

How To Have The Most Relaxing Spring Night In

[pipdig_padded_text]

Unwinding and treating yourself to a pamper night in winter is pretty easy – run yourself a bath, light a scented candle and cosy up in a onesie. However, as the weather starts to warm up in spring, I’m less prone to a hot bath and always look for an alternative to having the perfect night in.

Today I’ll be sharing some of my essentials for having the most relaxing spring night in – sans a Lush bath bomb/scented candle/cosy onesie.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

A cute pair of spring pyjamas is a must-have for a relaxing night in – there’s no way you can fully relax if you’re still wearing the same outfit you wore to work. Anyone who knows me will know that I am obsessed with Mr Men/Little Miss merch (25 going on 5) and I am currently loving this Little Miss Princess Pyjama Set from Matalan, which is an absolute bargain at just £15 and is perfect for this time of year as it comes with a t-shirt and a pair of comfy leggings. In fact, Matalan have a fantastic range of good quality spring/summer pyjama sets and nightwear at such affordable prices. I love the look of the Pink Panther ‘Feline Sleepy’ pyjama set and the heart print cotton short pyjama set is perfect for summer.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Making a cup of tea in one of your favourite mugs is a great way of unwinding on a night in. I personally love Yorkshire Tea Decaf in the evenings. If it’s not that, then I’m usually sipping on a cup of herbal tea. Peppermint and chamomile teas are great for relaxing in the evenings. The Bluebird Tea Co. also make a really lovely herbal tea blend called ‘Dozy Girl’ which contains chamomile, rose petals and lavender – the perfect night-time treat. Looking for more tea-spiration? Check out my post on my top tea recommendations.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_left][/pipdig_left]

[pipdig_right][/pipdig_right]

[pipdig_padded_text]We spend so much time staring at our screens – whether that is our phone, tablet or laptop – and a night in is the perfect time to enjoy a little digital detox. Treating yourself to a new book (or a magazine if you’re after something a bit lighter to read) is a great way of switching off from technology for a few hours. I personally enjoy reading books that are lighthearted and funny – especially when I want to relax. ‘My Not So Perfect Life’ by Sophie Kinsella is the perfect example of this. A relatable character, great storyline and plenty of laugh out loud moments![/pipdig_padded_text]

 [pipdig_padded_text]
For me, no spring night in is complete without a relaxing beauty regime. I find that taking the time to treat my body and skin to the care it deserves can leave me feeling so refreshed. Starting with a face mask, I have been really enjoying the L’Oreal Pure Clay Glow Mask which contains a blend of clays and red algae extract that leaves my skin feeling so smooth and healthy. I also use the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate on my skin every night and I find that it’s the perfect addition to my skincare routine all year round. The concentrate contains a blend of essential oils, including soothing lavender and is absorbed into the skin almost instantly. It then works its magic overnight so you can enjoy a smooth and bright complexion when you wake up in the morning.

Moving on to my hands and body, I love applying the L’Occitane Pivoine Flora Hand Cream to keep my hands feeling soft (and smelling great!). My number one recommendation for a relaxing body lotion on a night in is the Lush Sleepy Body Lotion. I first tried this body lotion back in 2016, and I have repurchased this a number of times since then. Sleepy body lotion contains lavender and oat milk and smells INCREDIBLE. I love using lavender based products in the evening, so this one is perfect. It’s also been formulated to sink into the skin quickly, so there’s no need to wait around for it to get absorbed before slipping into your PJs.

Finally, I always like to add a few drops of lavender oil to the under side my pillow, which helps me to relax even further and ensures a great night’s sleep!

All their products are available on their website, and in stores such as Paperchase, Scribbler, Joy the Store, Funky Pigeon and independent shops around the UK.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Notebooks

In my recent post on ‘8 things you can do the old fashioned way, I mentioned how I much prefer keeping organised with an actual paper journal – rather than on my phone or laptop. Nothing beats the feeling of crossing things off a to-do list in a new notebook! Therefore, my notebook collection is ever-growing and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. I just cannot resist a new notebook, especially when they’re as cute as these!

The notebooks available at Whale & Bird are very affordable at just £2.95, making them very hard to resist. I particularly love the ‘Keeping Doing The Thing‘ notebook with the little sausage dog on the front, as well as the ‘Fries Before Thighs‘ notebook (which is so me), both of which are so lovely and colourful! The notebooks are all lined and come printed with all sorts of positive affirmations and colourful designs.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_left][/pipdig_left][pipdig_right][/pipdig_right]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Pins & Badges

Pins and badges are a really easy way of customising your favourite denim jacket this spring or attaching to your backpack for a personal touch. Whale & Bird have a fantastic range of both enamel pins and badges with prices starting from £1.25. Some of my favourites include the incredibly cute ‘Be the person that your cat thinks you are‘ pin designed by Katie Abey, as well as the ‘Don’t Forget To Look Up‘ pin which looks so classy! All the pins that I got my hands on feel very well made, durable and come in really vibrant and eye-catching colours.[/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_left][/pipdig_left][pipdig_right][/pipdig_right]

Coasters

[pipdig_padded_text]Aren’t these the cutest coasters you have ever seen!? As part of their homeware collection, Whale & Bird have an extensive range of coasters (and cushions!) which would make great gifts or a fun addition to your home. I love adding fun little bits and bobs around the house, and these are just perfect. Being a self-confessed crazy cat lady, I really enjoyed scrolling through the many cat-themed coasters on the Whale & Bird website. I also really like the ‘Believe in Yourself‘ unicorn coaster, which has made itself at home on my home office desk.

The coasters are available for £2.95 (or 2 for £5). They are cork backed and have a tough melamine top that’s great at resisting heat, liquid or any potential scratches. They feel really sturdy, which I’m really pleased about as these are 100% some my favourite coasters that I have ever owned![/pipdig_padded_text]

 [pipdig_left] [/pipdig_left][pipdig_right][/pipdig_right]

Postcards

[pipdig_padded_text]Ah, postcards – where do I begin!? I’ve slowly but surely developed a special little place in my heart for cute postcards over the past few years, and I can’t resist picking new ones up to surprise my family and friends with (or keep for myself!). Placing postcards in a small, simple frame is a quick (and cheap) way of decorating your home. I keep some of my favourite postcards on my desk, which really help to brighten up the area!

Whale & Bird have a huge selection of colourful and bright postcards priced at just 75p – all with positive affirmations, cute quotes and vibrant illustrations. The ‘Be A Warrior Not a Worrier‘ postcard (which is very appropriate for me as I am such a worrier!) is one of my favourites and currently sits on my desk. If you’re a fellow blogger, these also make really great blog props![/pipdig_padded_text]

[pipdig_padded_text]

Greeting Cards

I’m a big fan of sending a good old fashioned greeting card in the post on birthdays, or even just to say hello to someone I haven’t spoken to in a while. There’s something really special about receiving something in the post that’s not a bill or a boring old bank statement. Whale & Bird stock hundreds of greeting cards ranging from birthday cards to new baby/home/job cards, cards to say congratulations and cards to celebrate events such as Christmas or Valentine’s Day!

The cards come with their own brown envelope and are currently on offer for 3 for 2 – so now is the perfect time to stock up on some greeting cards for the rest of the year!

One thing I always keep losing is my iPhone lightning cable (and the fact that it’s plain white doesn’t help!). I absolutely love the look of the new lightning cables from Venom Comms. These come in two different variations – a black and white cable with blue hardware which says ‘I GOT THE POWER! (pictured above), as well as a black and white cable with yellow hardware which says ‘YAY!‘. Both of these look amazing, and I love the handy little tidy to stop them from getting tangled and stuck to anything else you may have in your bag or pocket while you’re out and about.[/pipdig_padded_text]

Next up is the newly revamped ‘Actual Mini Brain’ memory stick which I am obsessed with! We’ve come to rely on memory sticks so much over the past few years that they quite literally are like our own little mini brains! I absolutely love the design and silicon feel of this memory stick – there are so many of these around nowadays, but this one definitely stands out amongst the rets. And with 4GB of data, it’s perfect for storing all the documents, photos and files you may need whilst on-the-go.[/pipdig_padded_text]

My handbag is never fully packed unless I’ve got a trusty power bank in there (no thanks to my unreliable iPhone battery!). The new and mega bright pink ‘Girl Power’ power bank looks incredible (seriously, it’s pretty much neon! *inserts heart eyes emoji*)! And what makes this power bank even better is the fact that it also doubles up as a mirror – what more could you ask for? It’s also really slim, so you can plug this into your phone then slip it into your pocket to let it charge whilst you’re out and about (and check for makeup top-ups, etc.!). GENIUS![/pipdig_padded_text]

I love listening to my favourite podcasts on the way to work in the mornings, so I always make sure to carry a pair of earphones with me wherever I go. Venom Communications have just released some new earphones which come in their very own ‘BOOM!‘ pouch. The earphones have a black and white woven cable and light blue silicon earbuds that fit inside the ears really comfortably (and I’ve got really small ears too!). Apart from this, the earphones come with 3 extra pairs of earbuds in different sizes to ensure a comfortable fit for all shapes and ear sizes![/pipdig_padded_text]

Last but not least, Venom Comms have also released a brand new ‘BOOM!’ bluetooth speaker as part of the new collection! I love bluetooth speakers – and this one is really small and handy, so it’s great for travelling with yet it still packs a punch when it comes to sound! The speaker comes with a rechargeable battery, that can play back for up to 3 hours on a full charge. It also has an impressive 10 metre wireless range, or alternatively you can choose to connect the speaker up to your phone or iPod using the audio cable provided for boosted sound!

How To Slow Things Down | 8 Things You Can Do ‘The Old Fashioned Way’

[pipdig_padded_text]

I couldn’t live without technology – and this is not something that I’m proud of. Throughout the day, I am constantly checking my phone, on my laptop, and doing things ‘the quicker way’. However, there’s something I find comforting about doing things ‘the old fashioned way’ – and although doing things this way may take a bit longer, we should all remember to slow down every once in a while and not let our lives be taken over by technology.

Here are 8 things you can do ‘the old fashioned way’.

1. Send a birthday greeting by actual post

We’re so used to sending off a quick text – or maybe an email – when it’s someone’s birthday, and although that’s an easy way of letting someone know that you were thinking of them, there’s something extra special about receiving a card through your letter box. It shows that the other person took the time to actually buy a card, write it out, buy a stamp and physically post it – which takes a lot more time and effort than shooting off a text, but it’s also so much more meaningful!

2. Write a handwritten letter to a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while

Whenever I want to catch up with a friend I haven’t spoken to in a long time, the first thing I do is normally drop them a text or send them a Facebook message. After all, it’s an easy way of keeping in touch. However it’s such a shame that the art of letter writing is slowly dying. Next time you want to get in touch with someone, why not sit down to write a letter and let them know what’s been going on in your life?

3. Get a pen friend

My last ‘SEND SOMETHING BY POST’ related tip – I promise this isn’t sponsored by Royal Mail! – is to get a pen friend. Imagine making friends with someone from a different country, who you didn’t meet by following on Instagram or through a Facebook group! Someone that you could get to know through the means of sending and receiving letters. Apart from having something to look forward to receiving in the post, having a pen friend is a great way of slowing things down and taking some time to yourself away from technology. International Pen Friends is a club that I have used in the past and one that I would recommend.

4. Grab yourself a new paperback to read

I spend most of my day reading – but if you had to ask me how much time I spend reading an actual paperback, I’d be ashamed to say that I don’t dedicate anywhere near enough time to this! I’m constantly reading news articles, blogs, emails, social media posts and sometimes eBooks. Spending prolonged periods of time reading off a screen can cause eyestrain and headaches – so why not pop into your local bookshop, have a browse through what’s available and pick yourself up a new book? (THINK OF THE NEW BOOK SMELL, that’s enough to make me want to read more!)[/pipdig_padded_text]

5. Keep organised with a (written) journal

This is something that comes naturally to me, as I’ve always preferred keeping myself organised by writing things down using a pen and paper, and I’ve recently started using a bullet journal, which has changed my life! If you’re like me and like to keep on top of things by making lists, then doing so on a journal means that you won’t need to keep checking your phone/tablet/laptop every time you need to check up on your to-do list. Plus, it’s so much more satisfying ticking things off your to-do list with a massive hand drawn TICK!

6. Wear a watch

This one is so simple, yet wearing a watch is a great way of stopping you from having to look at your phone whenever you need to check what time it is (which then leads to quickly checking for updates on Instagram, Facebook, etc.). Apart from this, watches make a lovely addition to any outfit and there are so many gorgeous ones available at the moment. Check out some of my favourite watches in my previous posts.

7. Take photos with a real camera + print them off for a photo album!

I love that whenever I want to look at any photos from when I was really young, I have to physically look through a photo album, at all the printed photos that were taken of me. Going through tons of photos on a computer screen somehow doesn’t feel so special! Instead of relying on your phone for taking photos, why not invest in a compact camera (or an SLR if you really want to take things to the next level!) and next time you’re out, take some photos using your camera to print off and put in a photo album for you to enjoy in the years to come.

8. Bake a cake – from scratch!

With so many ready-made cakes available in supermarkets nowadays, it’s very tempting to go for the easy option rather than baking a cake from scratch. Of course, most ready-made cakes taste good enough – but there’s no denying that nothing beats a home-made treat! From the magic of watching a few raw ingredients such as flour, sugar, butter and eggs transform into the most delicious spongey cake, to the incredible smell that fills the whole house – baking a cake from scratch is a great way of spending some time away from all technology and being rewarded with something delicious at the end![/pipdig_padded_text]
