How To Style Denim For Work

Although office wear is slowly becoming more casual, it’s still nice to feel smart when heading to work. Denim is great for being both comfortable and smart at work. In today’s post, Trilogy Stores, premium denim retailers of cropped jeans for women, provide us with some insight on how to style denim for work.

Styling denim jeans

Black denim is a great option if you’re not used to wearing jeans to work, or if your workplace prefers clothes that are more on the formal side of things. A high-waisted pair of black jeans worn with a gorgeous patterned blouse tucked in  creates a smart, fitted look whilst the high-waisted element of the jeans is perfect for elongating your legs — especially when worn with your favourite pair of heels.

Culottes are another greta option this season, and there’s no reason why you can’t bring the trend to your workplace. Black or dark blue culottes worn with a smart blouse, oversized blazer, and loafers would look great – and you can simply chuck on your favourite jumper when the weather starts to get more chilly.

If you want to add a subtle pop of colour to your overall look, go for a pastel denim. Lilac or sky-blue denim can complement a smart shirt well and is ideal for keeping you bright and cool when the sun is shining too.

Classic navy blue skinny jeans can look smart too. Worn with a crisp white shirt tucked in and an autumn-perfect checked blazer, your favourite pair of high-waisted blue skinnies can be great for work too. Slip on your favourite pair of pointy heels and you’re good to go!

It’s also worth incorporating white denim jeans into your workwear wardrobe. Worn with a dark or pastel shirt, white denim can be work-appropriate — choose a pair with a slim-leg fit to create a smart, summer look.

Styling denim skirts

A shirt paired with a pencil skirt is a classic outfit for work and can look very stylish as part of a power suit. However, you can easily update this look by incorporating some denim.

Dark-wash denim skirts are very on-trend this season and can look smart. Just as long as you steer clear of distressed denim and light-washes, that can look casual and slightly more ‘beachy’, and also avoid any pieces that sit a bit too far above the knee. A pencil-style skirt in indigo or black denim worn with a nice blouse is a great work outfit. Style this with a fitted jacket to replicate a power suit, or wear with an oversized blazer for a slightly less formal look. Alternatively, my favourite A-line denim skirts can also be a smart look, paired with a long-sleeved crew-neck or shirt and a comfy pair of ankle boots.

As you can see, there are so many different ways to style denim for the office and still look smart. Of course it’s important to make sure that this dress-code is accepted in your office, and if it is, there’s no need to hold back! From stylish indigo culottes to studded pencil skirts, bringing denim to the office can keep you comfortable,  fashionable and well-dressed – plus it looks great for after-work drinks too! Accessorize with a coloured cross-body bag and a tailored blazer for the perfect work-appropriate outfit!
