Warm weather makes wearing makeup a bit of a challenge and it’s sometimes easier to just focus on your skincare and wear minimal makeup, especially if you’re on holiday somewhere hot. However, we all know there are times when you’d rather feel a bit more made up – perhaps you’re going out for lunch or on a night out, or you simply want to wear some makeup without having to worry that it’ll all melt off within a couple of hours.
Today I’ll be sharing 3 products that have completely transformed my makeup base. Together, this combination of products gives me a flawless finish with a medium-full coverage and most importantly, it’s very long-lasting.
After years of searching for the perfect summer foundation that won’t disappear off my face in hot weather (and doesn’t cost a bomb!), I’ve finally found the one! The L’Oreal Infallible Foundation claims to give a long-wearing high coverage that will hide the appearance of fatigue and blemishes whilst not feeling or looking cakey on the skin – and I’m pleased to report that this really does live up to its claims. The makeup feels quite light on the skin, especially when considering that it gives a medium-full coverage. Even when the weather outside has been super hot, this has somehow stayed on my face! I normally blend this in using a sponge, brush or my fingers and find that it works well in all three cases. Check out my full review here. Shop here.
After years of staying loyal to my trusty Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, I decided to pick up the MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation around 2 years ago from duty-free – and I haven’t looked back since! In fact, I have reached for this powder around 90% of the times that I have worn makeup in the past 2 years! Not only is this great for keeping your face shine-free, but it also helps your makeup last much longer on your face. This, worn with the L’Oreal Infallible Foundation makes a great long-lasting base makeup duo! The MAC Studio Fix Powder also adds a bit of coverage, so it can be worn on its own, and I find it makes a big difference in making my skin look smoother and concealing any pores. Although at £23.50 this is much pricier than your average drugstore powder, I believe that it is worth every single penny – and it lasts for absolutely ages (between 12-18 months). After reading several great reviews about the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray I finally took the plunge and picked one up some time last year. However, no matter how many times I tested it out I just didn’t seem to get the results everyone else was talking about – until I changed the way I was using it which totally changed my opinion! When I first got this, I would apply all of my makeup – base, eyes, lips – then spritz this over my fully made up face and wait for it to dry (ie. fan my hands over my face until it dried). That didn’t really work. Then, one fine day I tried spraying this over my face after applying just my base – foundation, concealer, powder – patted it into my skin using a makeup sponge, and my base makeup looked incredible! Used in this way, I find that the setting spray helps my base makeup blend really (REALLY) beautifully into my skin, leaving me with the most flawless, long-lasting base. Now that I have found the best way for it to work on my skin, I totally get what all the fuss was about and will most likely repurchase this (in its snazzy new black bottle design) once this runs out.
