If you’re a regular reader of BATB, you might have noticed that things have been a little quieter than usual over the past few weeks. So today I thought I’d give you a little life update on where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing.
I’ve been publishing regular blog posts on BATB since September 2015 (before then, I only published about 5-7 posts per month). I’d even managed to keep this up even while I changed jobs and worked full time. So even on those days when I’d get home from work feeling exhausted or if I’d had a rubbish day, I would sit on my laptop in the evening and write about my favourite topics – beauty, fashion, travel, interiors – you name it.
However, recently things felt a little different.
As I mentioned in this post, I now work part-time from the office and part-time from home, which is great. I absolutely love having some flexibility over where I work as well as the hours that I work. Back in March, I increased the number of hours that I work per week so between my main job, my freelance work, and trying to sort out a long-distance relationship, I’ve had considerably less time on my hands, and less energy to focus on my blog. This left me feeling uninspired and the many ideas I would normally have seemed to dry up.
So where as usually I would come home – tired or not – get on my laptop and blog away (+ email/promote blog posts/etc.), I found myself needing a mini digital detox in the evenings and at weekends.
Rather than getting straight on my laptop when I got home, I have been taking some time to play with my cats, sort out my wardrobe, go out, have a bath, or read a book. In fact, this led me to re-discovering the joy of getting lost in a good book and made me realise just how incredibly relaxing it can be.
I finally took the time to finish reading the book that I started reading back in February last year (!) as I’d just ‘never had the time’!
Rather than spending every second of my spare time on my laptop, I gave myself some space to experience life without staring at a screen and it’s done me the world of good.
So after a bit of a slow start to my blog this month, I now feel ready to carry on where I’ve left off – and I’m back again with lots of new content ideas! In fact, I spent today scheduling 6 different blog posts, all of which I’m really happy with!
Although I’m not entirely sure where I’m going with this blog post, I guess all I want to say is:
- I’m back on my blog, feeling ready and motivated!
- Getting lost in a good book (bath optional) is one of the easiest, most effective ways to relax – if you can just get yourself off your screen.
- Never underestimate the power of taking some time out for yourself
