Skincare for men

For many guys out there, skincare is something that their girlfriends or wives do, something that is completely unnecessary if you happen to be of the male species. Some may even go as far as saying that all the lotions and potions kept in our bathroom cabinets are simply pointless. However, dermatologists recommend that both men and women stick to a simple skincare routine to protect the skin and ensure optimal skin health.

The lovely people over at Mankind recently sent over a box of skincare goodies for my boyfriend to try out. Mankind is an online store which specialises in men's grooming products including skincare, haircare, body and shaving products. The store brings all of the best brands in men's grooming together in one place, and you can find unisex brands including Clinique, First Aid Beauty, and Caudalie, as well as men's specialist brands such as Bulldog and Daimon Barber.

My boyfriend's skin can be quite dry so Mankind sent over a box of skincare goodies targeted at dry skin - as well as some other exciting extras! After being met with some rather questioning looks from my boyfriend, I forced treated him to a little pamper sesh by yours truly, and I explained what each product is for and how best to use it. Since then, my boyfriend has been testing out some of the products, which I thought I would share with you in today's post.

Skincare for men

First Aid Beauty is a brand that I've been wanting to try out for ages myself, so I must admit I was slightly jealous when I saw that my boyfriend received this! This cleanser contains a powerful blend of antioxidants and works by gently removing any impurities and dirt from the skin. It is suitable for sensitive skin and can be used daily to reduce flare ups and skin reactivity. This is one of the products that my boyfriend liked the most as it is fuss-free and easy to use.

The Bulldog Original Face Scrub is another fuss-free product that my boyfriend quite enjoyed. It is an all-natural face scrub which contains pumice to exfoliate the skin, as well as a blend of essential oils and shea butter to leave the skin feeling fresh and free from impurities.

My boyfriend never uses hand cream, although to be fair he somehow manages to keep his hands feeling soft whilst mine feel like sandpaper! The Bulldog Original Hand Cream is a fast-absorbing, non-greasy hand cream enriched with a unique blend of eight different essential oils. Whilst this won't be a part of my boyfriend's regular routine, it's a good idea to keep a hand cream on stand by for when the weather is particularly cold and harsh on the skin. I've stolen tried this hand cream myself a few times and I love the fresh unisex scent and just how fast it gets absorbed into the skin!

Daimon Barber is a London-based brand that delivers innovative, high-quality skincare products that have been specially designed for men. The Anti-Fatigue Face Cream is a fast-absorbing and non-greasy moisturiser that contains Murumuru Butter and Coconut Oil to nourish the skin without leaving an oily residue. My boyfriend has been using this following the face scrub and face cleanser above, and it has worked really well at getting rid of any dry patches on the skin. This is another product I'm quite tempted to steal for myself!

Kerastase Densifique Bain Densite Homme
Even guys who have absolutely no interest in skincare and beauty products will most certainly use shampoo! The Kerastase Densifique Bain Densite Homme is a shampoo that is specially formulated for guys with thinning hair that lacks density. Apart from smelling amazing, this uses Biotin and Polymers to lift away impurities whilst having a thickening effect on the hair fibre, leaving you with thicker looking hair over time.

My boyfriend doesn't tend to use hair products on an everyday basis, however when he does use products to style his hair it tends to be using hair wax, so this is just perfect. The TIGI Bed Head for Men Matte Separation Workable Wax contains Beeswax that provides the hair with a natural hold whilst Cera Carnauba keeps everything workable rather than super stiff. It also smells AMAZING!

Admittedly, if there's one bit about men's skincare that I don't really understand, it's shaving creams! However, my boyfriend seemed pretty happy with this one and I quite liked its lime and black pepper barber scent too. This is designed to help create the ultimate close shave and demolish any tough stubble!

Skincare for men

Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste
The Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste is specifically designed to protect the teetth and reverse the effects of tooth erosion and protect against any cavities. This works by forming a natural barrier to protect the core of the tooth, protecting the teeth from damaging acid erosion caused by food and drinks. It also helps to restore the enamel's natural mineral content with its innovative blend of NR-5 ingredients. As I suffer from acid reflux myself, this is another product I might have to steal once or twice!

The Marvis Classic Strong Mint Toothpaste contains flouride to strengthen the teeth, and comes in a handy mini size, making it perfect for packing on weekends away! Plus the vintage style tube looks really sophisticated!

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25
Having a lip balm is always super handy to have - whether you're a man or a woman! The Jack Black Intense Lip Balm contains Shea Butter and Avocado Oil to nourish the lips and relieve lips that are dry, chapped or irritated. This comes in a Natural Mint flavour which feels tingly on the lips once it is applied, and it also has SPF 25 and provides protection from sunburn, windburn and temperature extremes.

Skin Authority Men's Collection
The final thing that my boyfriend got sent is a box full of Skin Authority skincare products. Skin Authority is a brand I hadn't heard of before, however from the research I have done it turns out that this is a California-based brand that provides a range of high-quality and innovative skincare products for both men and women.

The box contained 4 products, including a Daily Wash, and Anti-Aging Shave Serum, a Reviving Eye Brightener and a Hydrating Sunscreen. Again, my boyfriend quite liked these products as they are fuss-free and effective. I think that the Hydrating Sunscreen in particular is such a great idea, as my boyfriend doesn't normally use a sunscreen that's specifically designed for the face. This one in particular is packed with antioxidants to hydrate the face whilst providing broad spectrum protection against UV rays.

If you're after any skincare products for men I would highly recommend checking out Mankind.

Does your boyfriend/husband use any skincare products?
