With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, now is the perfect time to treat your loved one to a romantic break, or plan a short holiday with your best girl friends!
Just because there are only a few days left until Valentine’s Day, this doesn’t mean that you need to settle for any old present. In my opinion, one of the most special gifts you can give someone is a surprise trip somewhere, where you can explore somewhere new and enjoy each other’s company. Today I’ll be sharing some ideas on last minute holidays you can plan because…why not!?
Last Minute Cruise Around The Med
If you want to go all out and treat your loved one to a Valentine’s gift they will surely never forget, why not go ahead and plan a cruise trip? There are plenty of last minute cruises from UK where you can explore different countries and cities in the Mediterranean such as Barcelona, Rome, Marseille, Cannes, Naples, Mykonos and Gibraltar. If the Med is not for you, other cruises that leave from the UK also stop at places such as Amsterdam, Dublin and the Orkney Islands. Cruises are perfect for romantic holidays as you get to enjoy breathtaking views of the sea together (think of the sunrise and sunset views!), explore new countries, and enjoy a date night pretty much every single evening on the cruise ship. City Break in Europe
Airline prices can be very competitive these days, so booking a last minute city break in Europe doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Rent a house boat in Amsterdam to enjoy the city’s canals or enjoy some of the world’s most iconic sites in the city of love, Paris. Alternatively, you could plan a trip to Venice and enjoy an unforgettable (if slightly overpriced) gondola ride or head to some of the other beautiful Italian cities, such as Florence or Verona and enjoy the delicious local cuisine. There are just so many places in Europe to explore – and best of all, they are only a short flight away!
Book a Staycation
A staycation is a great idea if you’re after a spontaneous holiday on a slightly lower budget – just jump in the car and let the adventure begin! There’s no need to worry about appalling exchange rates, airport delays, or language barriers, plus there are so many beautiful places around the UK that you can explore. In fact, I’m planning on visiting a number of places around the UK and Ireland this spring, so look out for those posts on my blog! If you’re after picturesque views head to the Lake District or Scottish Highlands. Check out my post about my week in the Scottish Highlands last summer. You could also book a few days away in Edinburgh, and enjoy the amazing architecture and history of the place! If you’re into history, there are lots of castles that you can visit around the UK such as Dover Castle or Kenilworth Castle.
If you like the idea of a Staycation but would like to experience something a little bit different, you can also consider a luxury tree house holiday. Set in beautiful forest locations, treehouse holidays are ideal if you want a true break from the city. You can enjoy relaxing forest walks or cycling nearby, and treehouse resorts regularly supply guests with a hot tub or in-cabin spa treatments which sounds like the ultimate relaxing and romantic experience!
