Malta For Animal Lovers | Top Things To Do

Birdpark Malta

Malta is best known for its sunny weather, amazing beaches and interesting history. However, the island also has a lot to offer for animal lovers – both young and old!

Whether you want to experience swimming with dolphins, get up close with a leopard shark or pet an owl, the island has plenty to offer. And with regular flights to the rest of Europe, getting to Malta couldn’t be easier. Book your flights with Air Malta – Malta’s national airline – and you’ll find yourself on the sun-soaked island of Malta in no time.

Here are 5 places all animal-lovers must visit in Malta:

Birdpark malta

Birdpark Malta

I couldn’t not start by talking about the Birdpark – after all, my blog is called Beauty and the Bird! I visited the park a couple of years ago and loved it. There are lots of beautiful peacocks, ducks and chickens roaming around you in the park. This makes a trip here a really fun experience for both kids and adults (and kids at heart!). There are also some friendly owls around the park which you are free to pet or take a photo with, some parrots you can (sort of) have a little conversation with and an open pond with lots of pink flamingos that make a wonderful photo opportunity. The Birdpark is a definite must-do, especially for bird lovers!

Malta aquarium

Malta National Aquarium

The Malta National Aquarium has been one of the most popular attractions on the island since it first opened in 2013. With over 40 tanks and 130 species of fish including sharks, exotic fish and stingrays, the unique starfish shaped Aquarium is a definite must-do for anyone visiting Malta. You can even find Nemo (ha!) and Dory in one of the tanks. There is also a walk-through tunnel where you can experience the fish swimming around and on top of you, as well as an amphibian and insect room.

Horse riding Malta

Horse Riding near Golden Bay

If you’re after some particularly stunning views, why not visit Golden Bay for some horse riding!? The stables here cater for people of all abilities and ages, including first-time riders and children. You can book a lesson, a tour or a free riding session accompanied by a trained instructor and enjoy some of the beautiful coastal views that the area has to offer. You can even enjoy a 90-minute sunset ride and enjoy the picturesque views of the golden cliffs and coast overlooking the clear Mediterranean Sea. This part of the island offers some of the best spots to watch the sunset in Malta

Petting farm Malta

Ta’ Qali Petting Farm

The Ta’ Qali Petting Farm guarantees a fun and interactive day out for the family. There are over 20 types of animals at the farm including fluffy rabbits, sheep, goats, donkeys, horses, pheasants, llamas and guinea fowls. There is also a pond filled with swans and ducks, as well as a butterfly house. Best of all, the petting farm is free to enter and it costs just €0.20 to feed the animals. Definitely worth paying a visit!

Swimming with dolphins Malta

Swimming With Dolphins

The Mediterraneo Marine Park in Malta offers the unique experience of swimming with the dolphins. Swimming with these friendly and intelligent mammals is a great way of interacting and learning more about their behaviour and just how many similarities they share with humans. Sessions include a 30 minute educational documentary where you get to learn about the dolphins, followed by 30 minutes in the water with the dolphins and a professional trainer. The park also offers a number of shows throughout the day including a tropical bird show, sea lion show and (of course) a dolphin show. Just be sure to book in advance!
