Ever since I’ve started working full time back in April, I’ve become very aware of the importance of eating the right kind of foods throughout the day. I’m a huge snacker and there have been days at work where I’ve snacked on all the wrong kinds of food: cookies, chocolate bars, crisps. All of which led to the dreaded 3pm slump. 

GoToMeeting recently did some research on the best snacks to help boost your productivity throughout the day. I’ll be sharing my favourite 5 with you today.

Cacao / Raw Chocolate Snacks

I’m a huge fan of cacao and recently used it in my Healthy Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe.  However you can also use the same recipe to make a healthy chocolate banana smoothie. Cacao is high in antioxidants and contains anandamide, which improves mood and energy production.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are one of the easiest and healthiest ingredients which you can add to salads, cereals, yoghurts and smoothies. They are rich in protein, fibre, iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium, which means they can help to maintain blood sugar levels throughout the day.

Crackers & Hummus

I’m a big fan of hummus and fortunately it is high in protein, iron and antioxidants – hooray! Whole grain crackers dipped in hummus make the perfect morning or afternoon snack for when you’re feeling peckish.

Hard Boiled Egg

I love adding hard-boiled egg to salads as not only are they filling, but they also contain plenty of iron and protein which help you feel more energetic and full for longer.

Fruit & Peanut Butter

If you’re craving something sweet, a handful of fruit with some peanut butter. As fruit contains fructose, it’s a great source of quick energy, whereas peanut butter contains a combination of healthy fats and protein to bring steady, lasting energy.
