For most of last year, I have stuck with pretty much one foundation, the L’Oreal True Match Foundation (which I reviewed here). This offered a not-too-dewy, not-too-matte finish with a medium-full coverage, which I still really like. However, I wanted to try something that offered a bit more coverage, and that was a bit more matte, so I decided to try out the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation, which claimed to offer all that I was looking for!
First of all it is important to note that the Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation comes in two varieties – the NUDE version, which offers medium coverage and is the more hydrating of the two (the one with the white cap), and the 25HR version, which offers full coverage (the one with the red cap), the latter being the one that I went for.
The Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation comes in 7 different shades. I went for Ivory, which is a perfect match for my skin (NW15 MAC). This foundation promises to give ‘instant perfect coverage that feels extra comfortable and lasts all day’, ‘blends flawlessly’ and claims to be ‘sweat, heat, humidity and transfer proof for up to 25 hours’. So, does it really live up to all its claims?
On pumping out a small blob of the foundation onto the back of my hand I instantly noticed its thick consistency. However, when I started to apply this to my face (normal/combination skin) I found that it blended like a dream – both when using a brush as well as when using my fingers. Once blended, the foundation offered a matte finish and a full coverage, while leaving the skin feeling silky, which was exactly what I had been looking for. Due to its matte finish, it is not necessary to powder over the foundation – however those with more oily skin tones may wish to do so. (I would recommend the NUDE version rather than the 25hr one for dry skin). Also, because this foundation offers a full coverage, I found that I could get away with not wearing any concealer to cover blemishes on most days (however, I still applied some of the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer under my eyes to brighten up the area).
As promised, I found this foundation to be very long-lasting (although I can’t say I’ve tested its 25 hour claim!). I also love the fact that it contains SPF 20, which is great for the winter months. One last thing I love about the foundation (which admittedly, is a little bit weird) is its scent! If you’ve tried the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation, it smells exactly like this – floral and fresh, but not overpowering – and the scent fades away once the foundation has been applied and sinks into the skin.
I would highly recommend the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25HR Foundation if you’re looking for a medium-full coverage foundation which lasts all day! I will also be trying out the NUDE version to see how the two compare!
