The Christmas party season has now well and truly started, and so I will be sharing the makeup look that I will be wearing, as well as an easy guide to how you can achieve it!

Christmas parties are the perfect excuse to wear a smokey eye, bright lips and go all out with your makeup!  For this look I will be going for a grey/purple smokey eye and bright pink lips, whilst keeping the complexion looking young and fresh.

I am a huge fan of Topshop’s Beauty range and have created this look using Topshop Beauty makeup items.

The most important thing when going to a Christmas party (or any party for that matter!) is that you want your makeup to last throughout the night.  For this reason I first applied The Airbrush Primer to my face.  This helps to create a flawless base by smoothing the surface and minimizing the appearance of pores – but most importantly this helps the makeup to last much longer!  I then applied The Foundation in Shade 1, and blended it in with my fingers.  The foundation offers medium coverage with a slightly dewy finish – perfect for keeping the complexion looking fresh.  Finally I used The Concealer Palette (which has become my go-to concealer when travelling!) to cover up any blemishes and conceal my under eye circles.  I then used the translucent powder included in the concealer palette underneath my eyes to set the concealer in place, and dusted some over my T-zone.

I am a huge fan of Topshop’s cream blush (I love Head Over Heels for the summer!) and decided to go for one of their Metallic Cream Blush ‘Aorta’, for this look.  The metallic trend has been so big this autumn/winter, and I love that Topshop have incorporated this trend into their Beauty range!  Aorta is a deep metallic burgundy-berry shade (which could also double up as a cream eyeshadow, blended into the creases of the eye!).  I simply dotted some of the cream blush on to my cheeks and blended it out.  Thanks to it’s metallic finish, the blush also works as a highlighter on the top of the cheekbones.

To create a smokey eye look I used Topshop’s Smokey Eye Palette ‘Subversive’, which contains four shimmery shades; a grey-toned light pink colour, a darker, more purple toned shade, a dark grey and a black shade.  All four shades, especially the dark grey and black, are highly-pigmented, soft and a dream to blend – which is essential to create the perfect smokey eye effect.  I started by applying light pink shade all over the lid,  then applied the purple shade on the outer half of my eyelid, making sure it is well blended.  I then applied the dark grey into the crease and finally I applied the black shade into my crease, and again blended that well in order to create a seamless finish.  I then used Topshop’s Slanted Eyeshadow Brush to apply some of the purple toned eyeshadow underneath my bottom eyelashes.  The small size of this brush makes it perfect for using to apply a matte brown eyeshadow to fill in your eyebrows too.

I then used the Magic Liner ‘Engraved’, Topshop’s black felt tip liner to apply a thin black line on top of my lashes to make them look fuller, as well as creating a flick on the outer edges of my eyes.  I then took the Slanted Eyeshadow Brush again, dipped it into the black shadow and applied some over the black liner, blending upwards to add to the smokey effect.

For the eyebrows, I used the Brow Fixer ‘Ponder’, a light brown double ended eyebrow pencil.  The eyebrow pencil has a light brown pencil on one side, which allows you to fill in your eyebrows, while the other side has a wax ‘pencil’ to set the brows.  I find it so much easier and quicker to fill in the brows with this, as opposed to a powder – and it’s also perfect for travelling as it’s so light and small.  Highly recommend this!

As it’s the Christmas party season I decided to go for bold pink lips.  This makes a nice change from the classic red lip associated with Christmas, however it works just as nicely.  To achieve this I used Topshop’s Lip Bullet ‘Double Rainbow’, a sparkly blue-toned bright pink.  The lip bullet is easy to apply and has *amazing* lasting power.  It also feels rather moisturising, which is perfect for the winter when I find my lips need a bit more TLC than usual!  If you’d rather go for a more subtle lip, which you can see in the picture below, you can use the Sheer Lip ‘Chuck’, a berry-toned sheer lipstick.  This lip product is glossy, moisturising and quite buildable in colour – perfect for the Christmas season!

What do you think of my Christmas party makeup look?  Would you go for bold lips or more subtle ones?

I will be posting more in-depth reviews and swatches of the products mentioned in the coming weeks.
