Today I shall be reviewing a brand that I have used ever since I first got into skincare and makeup, that is the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash.

I have been having quite a hard time with my skin lately as it has been breaking out into quite a few spots, something which I have not previously experienced.  My skin has also been quite sensitive lately, when using my favourite cleanser, Soap & Glory’s Peaches and Clean (which I reviewed here).  That’s why I decided to go back to using an old favourite brand, Simple (described as “experts in sensitive skin”) to see if my skin would improve.

I would describe my skin type as combination skin, which consists of an oily t-zone and normal/dry patches such as my cheeks.

Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash contains Natural Zinc PCA, used to gently absorb excess oil, and Witch Hazel, which has natural antibacterial properties and helps to reduce blemishes.  It also contains Pro-Vitamin B5 to restore, soften and smooth the skin.  This all sounded great to me!

The exfoliating wash has a gel consistency with little white particles that exfoliate the skin.  However, unlike all other Simple products I have used in the past, it does have a very mild smell, which I can’t really describe – I’m guessing this might be the Witch Hazel?

Once I worked a small amount of the product into a lather, massaged it onto my wet skin and rinsed it off I did notice my skin felt very fresh and thoroughly cleansed.  I was very impressed with the way my t-zone looked and felt, however not so much with the rest of my face as my cheeks felt rather dry.  I also experienced some tightness on the driest areas of my face.  Another weird thing I noticed, which I had never experienced with any facial product before is that it dried the skin on my hands, which made me reach for some hand cream quite a bit more than usual!

Having said that I did notice considerable improvement in my skin (I have been using it consistently for a number of days now).  Blemishes did get reduced and I can’t see any signs of new ones forming – which is brilliant news!

Would I re-purchase this?  I’m not sure – Although I was not entirely satisfied due to the dry patches and tightness caused by the cleanser, I was very impressed with my t-zone and reduced blemishes!  I believe this product would be better suited to someone with more oily skin, and so I will probably try out products from other of ranges that Simple have brought out, to see if they work better with my skin type.
